54xmax: What is your profession?

I'm currently caregiver for my mother. I left my home and moved 1800 miles back to where she lives 2 years ago so that I can help her out so my sister won't put her in assisted living. Why do you ask?

HotRodDeluxe: You are referring to the Pre-Babylonian period I feel, for this was not the case after the exile. Moreover, Persian and Greek custom became the norm.

Yes, we were talking about the laws as set out in the bible (Torah).

Torah is the first 5 books of the bible, also known as the books of Moses. It consists of Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy.

Thanks, Pete. I had planned for many years to come and take care of mom when it was time. She would die rapidly if stuck away in a "home" for the elderly. When my sister and brother, who both live within 30 miles of her, decided she was too much trouble, it was time for me to come. I don't regret it. I want to give her as much time as I can to live happily in her own home.

LuvHurts51: Not exactly. The Septuagint is a Greek translation of the Tanakh (the Jewish "bible").
I generally go back to the Hebraic scriptures to avoid mistranslation.

The Septuagint is the version of the Pentateuch introduced to the west. Textual discrepancies and analysis are another subject.

I prefer to study the ancient scrolls... the ones with the "jots and tittles" that can't be seen anywhere but in the original Hebrew. The jots and tittles are very meaningful.

LuvHurts51: I appreciate that you saw the problem and could relate to what I was saying. What are you into now?

Just living. The academic life on top of a permanent job burned me out. I discovered that life itself is too short to be immersed in the minutiae of History. That is merely my own opinion borne of my own experience, and not a judgement upon those who wish to pursue these studies. Good luck to you. bouquet

Thank you, and to you as well. Life is too short not to be lived to the fullest. grin
