Mariannette: more proof if ever we needed it that if you have money or had money that the rules dont apply....its tax he didnt pay to the government. I didnt pay for a tv licence one year and because it is an post, a government body/agency....I got arrested and put in jail. Owe them €1.4 million, stay at home...owe them €160, go to jail.

Complete and utter madness to put anyone in prison for non-payment of a TV licence but also madness to punish Mick Wallace for what is not a personal debt, I feel that a scapegoat is being made of him, there have been lots of builders go broke as a result of the recession and for a whole lot more money too and they will not be punished so why should Wallace?

The people at the centre of this, the Bankers, got bonuses and promotions, ya gotta look at the bigger picture. :)

I think the guy is a cool, calculated fraudster who probably got sound advice on how to screw the system..quote]

I can't believe somebody makes a false declaration of earnings and intends to pay the money they didn't declare later. Who was his accountant? If he settled for 2.5 million how much did he owe? How many years will it take him to pay his debt of he gives half his dail salary (45k)?
