An elected TD has admitted falsifying VAT returns to the tune of 1.4 million.
He has stated that he did it to try to save the 60 jobs and the repercussions that would have on the employee's and their families.
He has reached a settlement of over 2 million with the Revenue but has admitted it's unlikely that will be paid due to the failure of his business. Because of the settlement he is not likely to be prosecuted.
While his business was failing he increased the salary to himself and and his son twofold.

As far as I'm concerned this man should resign fortwith. He falsified his Vat returns and as such has no place in any parliamentary proceedings and should not be allowed to continue as a TD.

What say you ? conversing

Its a disgrace Vin. He thinks the public are fools. He did not declare it to the revenue until he knew his business was basically bankrupt. He knew administrators would be called in and they would discover it and he would go to prison.
So he contacted the revenue, declared it and came to an agreement that he knew he would never pay. And because of this a file was never sent to the DPP. He should step down as a T.D and he should go to prison!!

The man robbed 1.4 million from the state! If you or me did that we would be in the Joy before our feet could touch the ground!

I don't know Mick Wallace personally, however I know men who worked for him and they have nothing but praise for the man. He made sure the men were paid all they were owed unlike many builders and developers in the country.
On the news last night he stated that in 22 years of business he paid 15 million in tax. He employed thousands of people over the years and their wages would have helped fuel the Irish economy.
Mick Wallace upset some in the corridors of power by campaigning by use of banners on his hoardings against the US invasion of Iraq and the Nato bombing of Yugoslavia.
I would suggest the campaign to have him removed from the Dail is a vindictive attempt at revenge for his outspoken beliefs.

I disagree Stan.

According to reports he is a sound guy and I agree with a lot of his liberal policies. Regardless of what he has paid in tax (he collected it as part of his responsibility as an employer/director) he has made a lot of money. None of this bothers me to be honest.

I just disagree that we can have a person in the dail who has stolen 1.4 million, lied about it and is asked to vote and take stands on issues that effect me and everyone. If he was not an elected TD I would have sympathy for the guy, and even now I still have some sympathy for his plight, but when you represent people and ask for their vote based on truth and honesty you have just misled the electorate and now that he has been found to have brokjen the law he is no better than Burke, Gilligan, Aherne in my eyes.

Yeah going to Poland is a pr disaster for him I think.
The exchequer (our money) is short 1.4 million that he stole and is now paying for a trip to the footie.

I personally find that part disgusting.

Shows him for the man he really is I think Vin. I would say he has a public face and a private one. He owes the tax payer money, he owes small businesses money and he if off in Poland. Disgusting is a good word.

And he knew his business was going bust so he doubles his and his sons wages to feather his own nest before his business went bang!

The man deserves prison, never mind to be a T.D!very mad

No worries Vinny, I see your point, however if I was in Micks position and had a choice between keeping 60 men in work so they could pay their bills and feed their families and hoping to pay the revenue at a later date, I would have done the same as he did. thumbs up

Don't be so paranoid Stan!!!

Wallace should go. The funniest thing has been listening to the leftie members of the technical group tieing themselves up in knots trying to avoid the questions put to them by the RTE reporters! If Wallace was a FG or FF man they would be shouting for his head but because he is one of them they are refusing to say the same thing. Hypocrites the lot of them.

What makes it worse is that he never help back from condemning everyone else for not being perfect but had this hidden all the time.

After reading it twice Vinny. The answer is simple. We all give up our day jobs or other and become TD's and milk the gravy train.

That's a good point Snowy.
I like a lot of what the Technical Group have to say but your right. They would be climbing all over themselves calling for his head if he was part of a large political party thumbs up

Do politicians become corrupt after getting elected or is it a pre requisite for nominations laugh

The thing is Phoenix I don't believe he is a bad guy and thru circumstances and bad decisions has led him to where he is at now.

I don't think they all become bad or courrupt either. They simply play the system.

I've listen to Ming several times and he seem to be on the ball.

On a personal level, I used to know some the Wallace family well when I was in school in Wexford. Big family. Most of them were entrepreneurs, well thought of, but lots of tragedy in their family over the years.
