There is no doubt addiction is a huge reason people are on the streets. And to expect those people to give up their vice while homeless is asking far too much I think. We need far more services, halfway houses and drop in centres.

But not everyone on the street is there because of addiction issues. The downturn in the economy, family breakup, mental health, domestic violence, and the increase in rent while welfare is cut are just some of the other reasons.

30K pay off for families living near Large power lines. The government knows these things cause cancer and they think throwing a low income family (because you can bet your bottom dollar the lines wont go anyway near a high income area!) is the solution.
It just shows that the government dont give a f@ck about the people of the country. It's big business all the way!

Well they do buy food too. You see them buying sandwiches. But place to stay? How much is rent where you love Snow?

And how much do you think they can beg in a day? And even if they did beg enough hotels and B&B's wont take them. And Dublin hostels are not safe places......they get robbed,assaulted or worse. It's not as simple as you're putting it.

It's definitely not an ideal situation but at least he is earning his booze. Working for food and board was a big thing up until the last 50 years.
I'm a big believer in a fair days pay for a fair days work. The minimum wage is too low.

I can see why they would do it too. It really pisses me off when people say "Don't give them money, they'll only spend it on drink or drugs".

Well if I had to sleep on the streets in the cold,wet,dirty conditions I would get pissed too!

I can do the maths. I'll be home by 7.50 ish. Go for a run, shower and be out for dinner by 9.30. Spend the night with friends and in bed by 12. Up again at 6.30 tomorrow.
And I also have weekends. I am very lucky.

But I suppose sitting in Bray watching Jeremy Kyle in the morning, Daytime TV and then TV all night, while drinking your dole is your idea of not being dull.

I did read all the thread....and you claimed addiction was a theory....But then posted an article on addiction TRANSFER. It just shows you're too stupid to understand what you were reading.

But it's not quitting. The poster I replied to said she had quit or given up as far as she was concerned. I simply pointed out she was just fooling herself! Quitting is when you're not taking in the drug any more via any source....not just changing the method you use to get the substance into your system!

The person is still taking in nicotine, they have given up nothing, just changed the device they use to get their fix!!!!!!

Ireland has always been that way. FF have always been a jobs for the friends and family type of party. FG have always been jobs for friends and old school tie chums party. Labour are run and always have been run by middle class white haired men in grey suits who tell people they will fight for them, but as soon as they get into government they look after themselves.

We have no real choice in Ireland as far and left and right is concerned. All parties are run by people who look after their cronies by setting up quango after quango. They all basically have the same view of looking after the rich and then maybe a few Euro will trickle down to those who are in desperate need.
Our police force is one of the most corrupt in the world and they investigate themselves. The ombudsman has no authority of the Garda commissioner, which is so stupid it's unbelievable.

I could go on forever. It's a banana republic and we are a joke to the rest of the world.
