The Integration Centre is withdrawing its plan to complain to the Gardaí about comments made by a District Court judge.

Justice Mary Devins described the social welfare system as a Polish charity during a court hearing in Castlebar in Co Mayo last week.

She apologised last night saying no offence was intended, but the Integration Centre said her apology was a "rambling, contrived and spurious statement".

The immigrants rights group has decided not to press ahead with a formal complaint after Judge Devins issued a second unreserved apology today.

Chief Executive of the Integration Centre Killian Forde said he would, however, be writing to the President of the District Court to note the group's concern with the comments.

"We were due to go to the gardaí at 3pm but at 2.30pm a new statement came out from Judge Mary Devins in which she made the apology she should have orginally made," he said.

"... She apologised to the Polish community, takes responsibility for what was said, accepts (the comments) were insulting and has promised not to say them again.

"We will write to the President of the District Court to note our concern"

these judges often make such glib comments as it grabs a headline in the local paper and feeds their inflated egos.

It was a joke and quite a funny one at that. What I would be more concerned about is the Integration centre, they seem to have branches and people working for them all over the country. Who finances this organisation. Surely not the Irish taxpayer?dunno
