I think most people realize that Obama started the race with a very dirty balance sheet. But nobody really knew anything about him except that he had nothing to do with Bush or the neo-cons. And, at the time that was considered more important than anything else.

It's well known in Europe that a lot of Americans can't afford health care or medication.

But it's poorly known in America that European-style socialized health-care costs people more even more than in the states.
Here in France people pay a big chunk out of their monthly salary for the national healthcare. But then people also have to buy a "mutuelle" insurance to pay for all the things the national insurance doesn't cover, and even then the individual is left paying a lot out of his own pocket for things the mutuelle doesn't cover.
Anybody who things socialized medicine makes healthcare more affordable is absolutely clueless.
The most affordable healthcare I've seen was in countries where there was neither socialized medicine nor health insurance... where people pay for healthcare right out of their own pocket. Thus eliminating hundreds of greedy middle-men.
Godsgift: Obama tries to install a health system and there's a return to McCarthyism with labels of communist being banded about.
Maybe it had something to do with the fact that nobody in the US wanted Obama's boondoggle but it somehow got shoved down their throats in typical Communist style.

We were talking about communism and dictatorship and lying promises and being in bed with the big banks. Those attributes don't have anything to do with the amount of melanin in Obama's skin.

The car business was in need of restructuring had there been a panic or not. If I remember correctly the direct cost to each auto do to the workers benefit package was something like $1500. They were no longer able to compete. Obama was not the reason as you want to believe and just like the rest of the mess it goes back. I’m surprised that you fail to recognize the complexity of the matter.

Who made the panic (e.g. crisis)in 2008?
DEM Barney Frank triggered the crisis when he had all the US mortgage reappraised to lower property values. Supposedly to replace the bank investment with some "new type valuation". He never said what this new thing of value would be. He just said we have to get away from mortgage valuation.
But when he forced the banks to reappraise the mortgage portfolios, American lost billions in housing values. They could no longer borrow on properties that were so low in value. Then that market disruption
spread to the commercial insurance industry, the banking industry and then the auto industry.
The Bush administration had already told Reid/Pelosi Congress that a housing bubble was emerging. Then Frank overreacted to the situation in April of 2008. By that fall, his house finance committee's new appraisal regulation were in effect. Then you have Fannie and Freddie spreading the financial disaster to the insurance and banking industries. Both were DEM controlled. Barney Frank's live lover is a high ranking executive at Fannie Mea. You want to tell me that collusion between Franks and his lover did not occur here? With lower priced housing, Frank's lover is making more loans thru the Freddie Mac system. But later when the DEM do the investigation into the collapse of 2008. Does any of this get entered into the 'official record'? Nah.
This is were you have to good leadership. We vote them into office to protect our properties and our assets....not to mention the country.
It was all very timely to get then Senator Obama elected. It gave the country a reason to vote for a very inexperienced Presidential candidate. But how many campaign promises has this President kept?
If you notice now the President has a "evolved position" on gays. Barney and his male lover played a major role to get him elected in 2008. Some might say a quid pro quo pay back..........was arranged in 2008.

We have the recent example of GM investing $596m to get its famed GM logo on the shirt of the Manchester United fotbol (soccer team). You got under some of that $596m is US tax plyer money. Maybe we should ask for
a nice size US flag be placed on the famed shirt of the club?
The GM marketing official was released....after a whistleblower came forward....to expose the deal.
But clearly placing the GM logo on Manchester U shirt does little for jobs in American. It is questionable how many GM cars the advertising would even sell in the UK or even in Manchester.
Yet it was NOT President Obama car czar that debunked the deal. It took a GM whistle blower to do that. They are stilling investigating to see if the GM official got a kickback on the deal. I bet he got life long Manchester U tickets.....$596m is a tidy sum.
That the Obama administration would approve the questionable advertising of GM....that is even more in value than the gov't $500m loan to Solydrn, shows the business smarts of this administration.
For much less than the $596m, GM could do a car give a away raffle at all the home games of Man U and gotten the advertising. And still paid less. Don't laugh, that Buick does not sit at the pro tour golf course for no reason. Having Tiger Wood sliding into a Buick and drive away does sell cars. So does placing a GM Camero in the Man U stadium and tossing the keys to a lucky Man U fan.
