What do you think about the system of matching used on some other sites where having looked at a members profile you have the have the option of ticking the box to show that you're interested in this person, when two members have shown interest in each other they appear on your matches list. It seems to me to be a way around the - will this person be interested in me \ shall I mail them or not issue. dunno

No nothing wrong with that, it's an additional feature to work alongside that, take for example the many members to busy to contact everyone that may be of interest or those of a nervous disposition that don't like to be first, I suspect most people have a fear of rejection it's just stronger in some that otherswriting

Whether you tick a box, or mail someone, you're still expressing an interest which maybe responded to, or ignored.

Its just that matching is based upon relative trivia (we both like cinamon??? Let's get married! We're perfect for each other!). Matching merely creates the illusion that something is sorting through some of the haystack for you and that something is somehow in the know about your ideal mate.

The matching technology is way too crude to be anything other than random selection, so why not do your own and at least make vaguely informed choices?

Oh I agree about matching technology but what I'm talking about here is purely where you tick a box if you're interested in a profile & if that person has also seen your profile & ticked their box it becomes a match, the matching used on some sites where as you say they try to match interests is hopeless uh oh

I should say that I have used this system on another site & it does work, doesn't of course mean that you'll fall head over heels for each other but it does give you a starting pointwine
