Who knows why?
Maybe he had a change of heart or was playing the field. It is not uncommon for people to feel that the grass is greener on the other side of the fence.
Cs can give someone the feeling of a kid in a candy store. So much choice! But if he is superficial, you didn't loose much.
I know that this note is not much of a consolation for the way you feel, but keep looking and soon or later you'll find someone.
