Another NCT issue......... (12)

Feb 11, 2013 4:29 PM CST Another NCT issue.........
Someone else here has a thread on this too but i have a different question. I have a 02 mid size saloon, 2 ltr and i only get less than a year NCT on it. I have a friend who has a 96, small car, 1 ltr, how is it they get two years when there car is 17 yrs old. Would'nt older cars need to get the NCT more frequently???
Would appreciate some advice
Thanks.

Age 0 yrs to 4 yrs.......No NCT needed...
Age 4 yrs to 10 yrs.......NCT every 2 years, on anniversary of regestration...
Age 10 yrs and over.....NCT every year....This is the current legal requirement, anyone telling you different is wrong....

NCT on mine is for today, 11th Feb, but if I got mine tested in mid March, I'd still have to bring it back on 11th Feb (there or there abouts) in 2014, no?

The reason you got 10 months and change is due to the anniversarial systen of testing...The DOE system for vans and commercials in the republic is the same as the UK MOT system, take your car in any old day and get it tested, and you get a years ticket where ever and whenever you go in...
Applus (the testing authority) and its predecessor worked the system on the date of your cars first registration, you can however get a grace period running into your test, and while im not certain, i believe its 2 monthts, so, you could get as much as 14 months test on your car, and that really is about as good as it gets....
AS for your friends car, that sounds very suspect to me, but i wont doubt what you say, but somone is playing fast and loose with NCT legality, and heads would roll if it were found out....

Correct....If you tested your car as late as july and it passed, you would have 6 months before your next test date....Nice eh!....

Are the garda strict?......Yes....

If your NCT is out of date and you have no proof of a booking / appointment you are considered as driving un-insured, and im not winding you up....You will get hammered with points and a fine...
If you havn't done so already, then contact the NCT booking line soon as possible and get a booking confirmed, have them send the appointment details to your phone, and presto, your legal again...
There is a PDF on the NCT website that tells you all the requirements for NCT, do download and read if you feel inclined, or simply read the base requirments from the booking page...

Good luck...
