Great Britian Gone Bad! (19)
poor family values since 1990s.
Which old Britain do you consider to be Great Britain. I remember plenty squalor in the past. Remember Maggie's millions in the 80s when we had 4 million unemployed and every city had huge council housing schemes. Do you remember manufacturing industry or the mines being shaut down or the minor's strike? What about the shipyard heroes of the Clyde and the Tyne. Probably not important when you live in Switzerland. You seem to have a typical middle class jaundiced view. When was this Great Britain you talk of and just who paid for it?

great britain was destroyed by harold wilson and his government, no amount of money could fix what they borrowed, and interest etc. makes it worse everyday. and just as things slightly improved along came tony blair!

What was once the GB is now the BB Bad Britian!
Its an opinion only and no need to raise the eyebrows.
Seen the squalar that folks are living in nowadays on
the TV! Should this be? surely not.
What happened in the UK of late in the years gone by it
was a place to be proud to say you lived in.
The whole thing of having a decent lifestyle is gone down
the drain, down the tubes or the pan whatever you like to
call it.
NHS seving the world and its wife! Welcome all, no not so
when I am in the UK I have to pay for perscriptions!
NHS not serving their own people whom it was created for.
My pal had to have 4 ops for the same thing because they
got it wrong time and again. See one of our colleagues on
the CS waiting for op and has been cancelled again and again
even at the last minute when he arrived at the hospital fasting.
The cleanliness of the country gone to the dogs literally see
the state of the streets on arrival its enough to turn you back
and forget travelling on.
Gangs gather and drinking and abusing folks passing about their
business.
Tower blocks in decay and people expected to live in them.
I am sure you folks have lots to say on this matter.
It goes on and on, the pensioners not living a life but a death
in advance of going to the crem.
Who did this to the UK?
Who is to blame?
What is going to be done about it?
I wish you all well and hope that one day the UK will again be
a place to be proud to live in.

For all it's downside, the NHS is still something to be grateful for in this country. Many people have life saving operations and treatment which they would not be able to afford privately. Sure there is good and bad management, resource wastage, good and bad care, the list goes on but if you need a serious operation, you'll receive it and some of the medical profession are specialists, top in the field and in the world. I won't knock the NHS in the absence of free health care alternative.

Thatcher thought Britain didn't need any industry. Her idea that the city of London could generate enough cash to keep us a top nation turned out to be way off the mark.

Though, to be fair, living in another country doesn't negate the question/viewpoint. Perhaps work/family commitments, etc has taken the OP there? Could be any number of things beyond his control. Could be by choice and, to be frank, the country the way it is now I would be off like a shot (as would thousands probably) if I had the opportunity.
