I do not. And recently a PV company attempted to "poach" me to go and work for them, which I refused to do because they have no integrity and I know where this technology is going.

It's the government offer to pay you a tariff to produce eleccy that makes it seemingly worth investing in solar, but if you read the above you can see that they are cutting this tariff year on year. In a few years they'll actually be taxing you to produce your own electricity(to subsidise the grid infrastructure)instead of paying you to produce... And so solar panels should pay for themselves if you live until you are 157, by which time the grid would be powered by nuclear fusion.

Tax breaks maybe? As there may be something in it for them, as well as the feeling of giving out the 'eco green' image.

I personally don't like them as they're not yet at a stage where they would supply enough power to warrant having them. Also, they are ugly as sin.

Because it's looks good to punters and the trade isn't open to real market forces. There is money to be made from it, just not by you and me.

For most properties in the UK it could be 2040 before the panels pay for themselves and their upkeep. Many things can go wrong with them, and many things will change in the rest of the world(we hope).

I think the chances are that something will develop on-grid making PV redundant and you out of pocket. Or if this doesn't happen and more and more people switch to solar then the government will bring in a toll to subsidise the grid(which we all need as back-up)to avoid becoming even more like Poland.

I was thinking of Ikea who want every store to be virtually 100% energy efficient..... Aren't the feed in tariffs guaranteed for 20 years and increase with the RPI?

IKEA will put panels up for you and do all connections for a lot less than these companies. But this is not available yet through out the country yet.
Hope your house goes through fine for you. exciting and maybe a little sadness after living in one place for so long.
