head banger professor Aside from the Arts and fleeting moments of grace, charity, and kindness, that's one of the best things we as humans have done.

mumbling I don't know why we haven't been back and NASA hasn't been doing more.very mad well I do "lately"

scold no, don't believe in any Capricorn 1 conspiracy theories

Considering that there were multiple shadows where there should be only one (no supplied lights) or two, there was the largest solar flare on record that week and the thousand degree temps would bake the tin foil-suited astronauts like a potato... I agree with you... not likely.

Oh yeah, the Russians came back with radiation poisoning and their capsules were a lot more advanced (not to mention thicker).

Yep, s'posed to be a solar wind...which astronauts couldn't survive, know what happens when you put something metallic in the microwave? Now look at what's not happening to the lander, rover and astronauts.

No need to visit Titusville, bit of scientific math can prove survival probability and everything else needed. There's a few new blogs that are trying to discredit what has been done, however.

There are telescopes powerful enough to see what was left on the moon when the astronauts departed..

They did not bring evrything back that they took with them!!

I beg to differ, depending on the degree of the solar wind exposure, it is possible.

Here's the exposure chart, direct from NASA:

* 5 rem/yr, or 25 rem in a single emergency exposure: "maximum permissible dose" in terrestrial radiation workers

* 25-100 rem: increased probability of leukemia; germ cell damage (likelihood of problems in offspring)

* 100-250 rem: nausea/vomiting in hours; high incidence of leukemia; shortened life; can die if untreated

* 250-750 rem: nausea/vomiting after about an hour; shock; death likely within 1 month if untreated; cancers; cataracts; significant life shortening; sterility

* 750-2,000 rem: nausea/vomiting within an hour; unconsciousness then temporary return to conciousness; death within a week

* >2,000 rem: unconscious in minutes; brief recovery then death

* 10,000 rem: one instance documented. Death occurred in 38 hours.

....
....

If that's not enough, I'll share the CM, LM, and EVA count and probability with values recorded when they were exposed to such radiation.

NASA is doing more, the last projects that the public knows of are new 'communications' satellites, and weather satellites. Other than that, space station work to fix things. I think they did the second space walk on the station this morning, or yesterday.

Good to hear.

Are the days of the shuttle numbered?

Perhaps NASA going back to the middle of the book on rocketry or shifting to other forms of (what do they call them) solar planes?

I thought they were going to go with something new, but I don't think they've decided what the plan is yet. There were a few beta projects regarding, but haven't seen or heard much more. I don't think the shuttle will be replaced just yet. The turnaround on it is too great, especially with the $ we just invested with 2 Northrup Grumman projects for specialized tiles and other heat dissipation devices.

If they're going to, they need to get on it and not wait. Time isn't standing still, and there's a few more things we need in space ASAP. The problem with this is that a few of them won't exactly fit in the space of your normal shuttle bay.
