Generally speaking:Some people are sometimes alone if it's their own choice to be.

There are ways not to be a lone during the holiday season.

Volunteer in a nursing home or a soup kitchen they are always looking for help this time of year.

Visit a home bound person etc.

If you have not family, not friends, no one to share Christmas with, there are other persons that might need your help and in that day you could do some volunteer job for others in your town to enjoy a meal, perhaps.

The spirit of Christmas is to give.

I always spend Christmas eve with my family, partner or not.

No idea what will happen should my mum not be around anymore. We have Christmas on the evening of the 24th, everyone in Ireland on the morning of the 25th - so if I would head out and spend time with friends on the 24th it wouldn't bother me, sitting at home alone would though.

What about friends in a similar situation?

Sometimes, being alone is better than some alternatives. Some of the loneliest people that I know, are married. Muddling through the Holidays in a bad relationship is worse than being single for Christmas.

Hi K
We do have Christmas celebration on the 24th eve as well and because we do have extended family, any celebration means lots of people around and because some friends are considered as family.

A friend of mine whose one child is married already, she and her family celebrate Christmas twice every year. On the 24th in her son's house and on the 25th in her home. However the date can change and sometimes they have had Christmas in any other day.

I hope your Mum will stay longer and in a happy way.

hug
