redo416: in todays world would you not agreed that soldiers are use as pawns in foreign policy or worse ?
Only in today’s world?? Get real, soldiers always have been used as pawns, especially those that serve in any State military, which does not allow for dissent or questioning ‘orders’. After a few years in ‘regular’ armies, I quit out of sheer disgust and went free-lance which while technically we were still being used as pawns, at least we had a free choice to opt out; cop-out or play our joker as it were and stage our own coup against a company/ cartel or some bloody dictatorship bent on slaughtering its own poor people before heading for the casinos in Montevideo, Macao or Monte Carlo with all the wealth they could carry. After all of my experiences, my opinion is that it would be a much better and safer world for most peoples if governments had no military to use, with no bombs to drop as their ‘foreign policies’. Perhaps one day people will evolve to the point of allowing all other peoples of this world to be free and simply live out their lives in peace and as much prosperity they can develop. This evolving, would also necessitate the end of all political parties as we now understand them; they are mere tools of a State to vote for and encourage war on others. Reasons do not really matter; only aggressive expansion of control matters; States only want Empires as do business cartels. The everyday peoples of this world do not; they only want to be left alone to make a living without being harmed or having to go off and help murder others in some far-away country for next to nothing money or health benefits. It simply is not worth it. And, sure, I took their moneys and sometimes a ‘bonus’, more often than not, they just left us to rot. This is ‘normal’ so we expect it and plan accordingly. And they pay one way or another. In global affairs, the independents, free- serving ‘mercs’ are the proverbial ‘jokers’ in the deck; the ultimate ‘wild-cards’ that people whom God as abandoned and can only be defended by the likes of us can play. I made my money, survived, exiled and still pay for it in several ways.
It's not as if it's a massive surprise to them and let's also remember, most of them sign up for it. National service isn't that big a thing these days.
on till one of your family member head is cut off on u-tube!!

redo416: and that is my point it is ok on till it hit home !!
My point is, the soldiers usually VOLUNTEER to serve for their country. Yes, I respect them for doing their job, but I'm not going to feel sorry for them over it. Especially when it's their decision to put themselves into the game. If you don't want to get wet, stay out of the pool. It's not as if they don't know they are pawns in the bigger game.

I'm a realist. If someone is going to play with fire, they're going to get burnt at some time.
Oh, am I supposed to be saying that the governments should bring all their troops home and settle the disputes out themselves?
Remember, those buggas can't even go a week without telling lies. Come election time, they can't make it a day. Do you trust them enough to handle situations?
