WittyandWise: The only sinking ship is the UK

Ah now Witty, I think I recall you saying that you would have liked to have worked with poor people in a Third World country, just give it a few years and your dreams will have come through. laugh

Kattte: While I'd love to finally see a united Ireland, under present circumstances, if Northern Ireland are willing to join, could both peoples actually live together in peace, both making compromises over what has divided you both for so long, especially with religion?? If both can be accommodating, then a mutual declaration of Independence could be made and apply to join the EU as a united, sovereign new nation. No reasons for the EU or even the UN to turn you down..but, what if England objects...what then?? I would trust them to object just out of spite... Hoping that both peoples can work out a good mutually beneficent deal, Bon Chance und Good Luck!

Most sensible comment on this thread, usually Irish people have differing and dividing views on the subject. One of the most disturbing is the cost to those in the 26 Counys,a feeble and unpatrioctic argument and disturbing from so called Irish people in my view.

The English have no difficulty with a United Ireland, they have signed up to this via the Good Friday Agreement, its totally up to the Irish now.

'so called Irish people'....funny how republicans think anyone who disagrees with them is not really Irish, they've always been like this, intolerant and fascistic. Fortunately there are fewer and fewer people like this here as we become more cosmopolitan and educated.

I'm a democrat. You seem to think there are only two positions on the issue, republican or unionist, narrow mindset.

For the record I am firstly and above everything Irish,my reasons for wanting a United Ireland is for all the people of Ireland, each and everyone no matter what religion, creed or view point you hold to be a part of the same Country, not divided, everyone should prosper equally on this Island.

Funny how 'republicans' always get aggressive! There's a lesson in that, for those bright enough to grasp it.
