because many people are greedy.

or they are protecting your future interests...in case you were truly harmed by the experience.

i'm betting it's the first one.

If she damaged your car or injured you by all means get reimbursed.

I was walking across the crosswalk when she hit me. Her mirror hit my elbow and just spun me around.

I believe you have a right to be reimbursed for damages if someone else crashes into you and it was entirely their fault. After all, they have a responsibility not to do that. grin

But at the same time I think it's wrong to sue someone for more than the actual damage.

I was tail-ended three different times whilst sitting at a red light. All three times it was a woman driver. I don’t know why they weren't watching where they were going. They quite literally totaled their vehicles but didn’t do more than scratch and bend my rear bumper. I never bothered to sue them for a new bumper. Although I probably should have. But I felt they had enough problems with their own totaled cars.

If I ever crashed into someone like that they would probably sue me for permanent neck and back injuries!

I don't believe in that kind of suing unless it really is for real. I mean, if one of those women would have done serious damage to my back or neck your damn right I'd want reimbursed for the medical costs and for the fact that I can no longer enjoy my life like I could have before. But I would NEVER sue someone on false pretenses. That's no different than stealing.

Well, only you know the situation. One thing about injuries like that is that they can show up later. The important thing would be to have the accident well-documented and you should see a doctor if there is any discomfort at all. Only you can know that.

I broke my foot once and didn't realize it for 2 weeks. I mean, I knew it hurt, but I didn't know it was broken!

I would just always advise getting a person's information before they leave because you just never know. Have a friend who was hurt by someone, but at the time didn't even realize it. They hurt her kid too, so she just hit fully blown "momma bear" (as she calls it) because the guy didn't even slow down enough to ask if the kid was ok. Good thing she did. Next morning she could barely move, and is now being put on SSD because with all the permanent damage that was caused she can't even work any more. At the time, she was too angry to even feel any pain except for one knee, and said she normally would have just walked away thinking it would just "go away". Turned out the knee was the least of her problems.
