There's a place in Pacific Beach (San Diego) that's left over from the 60s. Kind of a "Beat" place. I guess it was once a Hippie Crash Pad.
You get your own plates and silver ware, set your own table, pour your own coffee.
When your breakfast is done they (literally) "yell" out your name.
You take your plate up and they fill it (hamsteak, eggs, HBs, muffin, and coffee) still $4.00.
As a courtesy you clear your own table for the next party.

inexpensive? relatively "cheap" and the best vegatarian restaurant in Vancouver, The Naam ,, includes live local entertainers ... not always the best but....
