And what does the federal government do after the repairs are finished, after the city has been brought back from destruction and is going strong again, and then another storm even stronger than Katrina devastates your fair city again?
Why would anyone want to live in a bowl below sealevel in hurricane alley?
It should also be taken into consideration that improving the coastal wetlands provides a barrier to deflate approaching storms. Destruction of those lands has been a mistake by those at the local, state, and federal levels.
But what about Florida which is getting hit constantly? The earthquakes of California? The tornadoes of the Midwest? The snow storms of the northern states? The terrorism potential of New York and Washington?
People across this country are living in dangerous places. Should we insist that all of them take responsibility for disasters and that the National Guard should never be called to serve its citizens in need?
Well, if they build proper levees this time (perhaps they should take to the Netherlands) and have the Guard ready with proper instructions...its very unlikely you'll see that level of devestation again.
Katrina, herself, was a rarity in the long history of New Orleans.
I'm well versed in the snow storms of the northern states, and can speak first-hand on just how useless the government at all levels is in a time of need. We get better help from the Detroit Edison storm team, sadly.
30 below weather-wise, 19" of snow, power out for over 600k in the state? Yeah, nothing fun at all. Been there, and they won't ever take a role that's beneficial I don't feel. It's all about what they want, when they want to do it. Right now we're too busy trying to make friends with Iraq for the reason of oil.
Well, then for all my friends and family who did evacuate and returned to undamaged homes, I'll just tell them to buy a gun and not bother calling the police while they worry if they'll be murdered in their sleep.
The power of nature should never be underestiamted, that is correct - I am not ruling out the possibility of -anything- happening in regard to weather patterns, ever. I've seen way too much happen in the blink of an eye to ever consider doing so.
Haha. You know, I found it funny that the government didn't take extra attention when it comes to New Orleans especially since so many oil companies call it HQ. I have family who work for these businesses and Katrina was a financial disaster. When someone at the dinner table is answering calls from foreign countries demanding their billions, you start to wonder why Bush doesn't care. My guess is that he was too clueless to figure it out.
I think I can safely associate them and say "Iraq and oil are obviously more important than 100's of thousands of people forced to relocate with 1000's dead on our own soil."
Don't you feel this is the case? If not, I'm curious as to why you don't see that. What does us getting in the middle of a religious war overseas have to do with us helping our own who need it much more?
I googled " Katrina relief efforts and had 1,750,000 hits. Money has been collected and is continuing to be collected for hurricane relief. Now wether it ever makes it to where it is needed is another problem. I think there are still issues with the Governor that has held things up with much of the rebuilding. Also insurance companies are still in court trying to get out of paying claims.
Of course we were, on the same token - where's the dedication we have over there working for those -here-, on -our soil- where it was quite devastating to say the very least? Rhetorical, the gov't just demonstrates that those who are on US soil are going to always be second best no matter what occurs, or what we have to poke our noses into for a 'greater good' in the eyes of el presidente~.
We have already had the discussion about Iraq, and I believe it was and remains the right thing to do. I respect you position, but I respectfully disagree wit it.
Well i didnt read everything so forgive me if i repeat something
Bush neg. LA and i cant beleieve that people are as blind as they are in not seeing that Bush forgot about them but is sending millions to rebuild another country dotn get me wrong i think we should help others but what about our own first
