What is God? ( Archived) (210)

I am curious to see the differing views on what people believe God is. I don't want to cause a battle of who is right and who is wrong because I am just looking for opinions, not answers.

My opinion. I think God is a construct of human belief. God doesn't actually exist except in the minds and the collective of those who choose to believe in Him. The fact that so many millions of people believe in God makes him as real to them as anything else. And what God and the bible teach is generally good, it's basic message is to love people and don't do wrong by anyone. It's pretty simple and would make for a great world if everyone were to follow it. I think belief in God has helped many people and I am glad that has happened. The problems occur when people believe too strongly in God and not enough in respecting others.

I am would love to hear anyone else's opinion on this topic so hopefully we can all expand our understanding of how other people feel and think on this topic. Thanks.

I am this universe.

I came out of it.

Everything that is me, is this universe.

There is nothing that is me that is not of this universe.

My spirit is the spirit of the universe.

Just my conscious thoughts.

I was surfing with two Philadelphia (transplant) Catholics Jeff and Lee.

Lee, being more of a (not thumper) let's just say devout was giving Jeff a ration for not making it to Mass for quite some time.

Jeff raised his hands (palms up), scanned the sky and simply said,........."Lee.....God makes me nervous when you get him indoors!"


I (literally) fell off my board into the water and nearly choked from laughing and it's still one of my favorite lines ever.

Whatever "IT" is, I feel closer to it in nature.

I like Jeff a whole lot....

Me too! He is more kind and gentle than most "Church goin folk" that I know.

I have met more people who have no religious connections, ties or beliefs, be more "God' like, than half the folk who are.

and in reality we all have the qualities, some buried, some untapped, others living strong in their power.

God is a term, I feel, for goodness, and rightness, and for what we feel when we look upon a stunning sunset, or a rainbow, a baby.

There is this god thing everywhere, we just forget to look sometimes.

As a religious icon, to be feared, adhered to, revered?

Pass give me the Mother anytime, she knows.
