In this day and age of "see nothing", "say nothing", and "do nothing": there was an incident today here in the city that touched me.

In a part of the city known for drugs and gangs and violence; there was a truck motorcycle accident that killed the cyclist. The man in the truck tried to run from the accident, when people in their cars surrounded him in his truck and blocked him in, and one got out and slashed his tire to keep him there. He was captured due to the fast responses and fearless attitudes of people sick and tired of the crap.
I applaud all those that chose to get involved. We need more like them.

Kat.....

When involved in trauma, the body has two responses, flight....or ...fight....

I have seen people do incredible things when not even aware they are fatally injured...

Please don't condemn the man for what may have been a response, that he may have not had when in a calm everyday state...

Lee, I wasn't aware that I was condeming him? It was that he was trying to flee the scene of the accident in his truck after hitting the bike and rider. The biker was killed. The bike was totally destroyed, mangled to nothing. The people simply prevented him from leaving the scene. A rare act of taking charge and doing the right thing, for once. We hear so much of turning a blind eye to people in need. People are so afraid to get involved anymore. It was just refreshing to me to hear this.

It is just the flavour of the post...

and you are right...it is wonderful to have people come together, and without thought do something, rather than look the other way..

I still can feel the man's horror, and disbelief, and raw panic, and fear...and a morally inappropriate reaction.

Jess, I can also sense the man's fear and the panic, but the man was fleeing from the scene of the crime. Where was the man's sense of responsibility, of moral obligation? I can hear it now; "it wasn't my fault, he shouldn't have been riding his bike on the street."

I've been involved in an accident, where there was an injury, and I tried to provide aide, not run.

I was always taught that there are consuequences for my actions and I should expect to pay them.

I may also feel sorry for the man (it was an accident), but I also feel sorry for the victim and the victim's family, that wouldn't have gotten any compensation if the guy ran.
