depends.. is he having trouble in school- he might need to stay back a year and work on what he's having trouble with

my cousins' daughter was held back in the 1st grade for not doing her work which of cource got her bad grades..

if he is having trouble learning then he needs a tutor and help..

if he's just being lazy and not applying himself.. he needs to get on the ball

either way sometimes its best to stay back

As in held back?
Why do they sugar coat words nowadays.

Actually, my nephew was help back in 8th grade and it was the best thing that could have happened to him. It really got his attention if nothing else.

he is in speech for his speech therapy. he has trouble with his reading and writing. but does good in everything else. he reads good at home but isn't doing good at it at school. plus he doesn't like his teacher. so i think some of it is because of her.

It is never good for a child to have that stigma.......

But we, as parents need to do what we need to do.

Saying that....can he be tutored, or summer school, or something like that?? good luck and best wishes to you and your baby boy

yes held back. i held back one of my boys in 3rd grade. it humiliated him because they done it a month after he started 4th grade. but now he's going to be graduating and has excellent grades and an honor roll student. but 1st grade i think is to early. they have tutoring. why can't they just give him extra help.

My mom was a teacher for over 40 years (mainly first grade), and she was always amazed that a parent would fight for the child to not be retained, when she, as a teacher, knew that it was in the best interest of the child.

My mom is almost 78 and unbelievably, when we are out shopping or whatever, she'll run into one of her students, and they will remember her and she will remember them! Freaks me out, but it is so wonderful for her, because she loved the kids!

Good luck to you. I know that it is a big decision for you and I wish you well!hug

I was held back after kindergarten. I was alot yonger then the other kids.dunno Didn't hurt my feeling then...I was so young, plus Im glad because I made better friends in that grade.

Who really knows?

Its a bit of a guessing game, what little change will affect the future.

I was held back in kindergarten, then in 4th grade they wanted to advance me to 7th grade. Ironic eh?

Trust your instincts, you know your child the best.
