A fellow walks into a doctors office and the receptionist asked him what he had.
He said, "Shingles."
She took down his name, address, medical insurance number, and told him to have a seat. A few minutes later, a nurses aid came out and asked him what he had.
He said, "Shingles."
She took down his height, weight, a complete medical history, and told him to wait in the examination room.
Ten minutes later, a nurse came in and asked him what he had.
He said "Shingles."
She gave him a blood test, took his blood pressure, gave him an electrocardiogram, told him to take off all his clothes, and wait for the doctor.
Fifteen minutes later, the doctor came in and asked him what he had.
He said "Shingles."
The doctor asked, "Where?"
He said, "Outside in the truck. Where do you want them?"

Where do you get them?

Yeah, I got Shingles when I was thirty and under a lot of stress. My little sister got Chicken Pox when we were about 8 and 9 respectively. I got sent in to get Chicken Pox but it never took. I never got them. I thought ...

I was 30, had a broken up relationship about two years after a broken marriage, had a contract terminating underground cables that was going well but was really hard work. I started to feel that all the bones in my right arm were crushed. My right arm lost all it's strength. I was trying to hold a 25kilogram hydraulic cable lug crimping tool up and pump it with my right arm which didn't have any strength in it. Then I got a little circle of water blisters high on the right side of my chest. I thought that I better see a doctor about those. My arm I had put down to fatigue or an injury that would eventually go away.

The Doctor took one look at the water blisters and took two steps back. "You've got Shingles!" he said. "What's that?" I asked. "You'll have to take at least a month off work." he said. "I can't." I said. "OK," he said, "Then you'll have to take three months off work when you collapse."

Eventually little Chicken Pox like leasions developed around the right half of my body ... I dropped the contract, was fired from another job I had ... had no money for a long time ... and came to realise that life is not to live in such an emotional state that you make yourself ill. Anything that takes you to that level is similar to a car with no brakes. Stay out of it. Any person that would have you in that emotional state is like a mugger with a baseball bat hiding around a corner. Stay away from them. And they are both worth about the same. Nada!

So I thought you might like to know some of what shingles is. It's adult onset Chicken Pox. Chicken Pox never leaves you but normally your immune systems and general health keep it supressed. It is probably the most common virus inhabiting people of the developed World.

Oh well Psoriasis is loads of fun too, let me tell you! I used to go to the pool and when they asked me what was wrong with me, I would tell them that I almost died in a fire. It worked, they left me alone.
