Well, I got a hair cut in the fourth grade and the women cut it SUPER SHORT, so My dads friend started to call me FRED, As I got older I was just Dee for the longest time even though Thats only the first letter of my real name. So now I am Dee to everyone...

Its kinda funny...once some mail came for me addressed to Michael instead of Michelle. So, Mike was my family's nickname for me so I canged all theirs too...

and my dad James was Jenny Jo...
It was funny when someone called and asked for someone, we would call them by their nickname to the phone...and the caller would always wonder what was up with that.....It made for a really funny childhood joke. Especially when friends were around!

Similar transition - at about thirty years old, we had two other Bob's in the office, and in a cube environment, there was some confusion. So I asked to be called Robert. I moved into a new apartment complex at about the same time back in Michigan, so that's how I introduced myself. Of course, no one here in Cali knew it any other way, so the transition was complete.
