Judge Roy Moore is a crackpot who has no respect for the constitution of these United States.

How terrible it must be to see the world like this. If only he would have been able to place the 10 commandments in the Alabama Supreme Court, none of these problems would exist.rolling on the floor laughing

Our land in not a moral slum. scold

Yes, I do have the right, until the religious thought police take it away from me.

I wasn't picking a fight, I just couldn't stand Judge Moore's grandstanding back in 2003 when he did that. He knew it that monument did not belong in the courthouse, but he did it anyway. It was simple pandering to the religious right.

Funny that after he took the commandments monument on a tour, went on every talk show griping about being dismissed from the court, he decided to run for office. He is a terrible human being, who used peoples religion to further his political ambition.

Oh yeah, he got smoked in the election. I really cannot stand that guy. very mad

Judge Roy Moore, Preachers and Dixie Hypocrisy

Religious dogmatists have been trying for years to take over mainstream institutions and government.

If you get a big belly laugh out of religious fundamentalists trying to transform an Alabama trailer camp into a theocratic religious township, please consider that such people control school boards, regularly defeat and elect politicians of all kinds, including George W. Bush who placates them with words about "being born again.

Moores antics are hardly new in Alabama.
Some years ago, poor white residents in a trailer camp (at Priceville) and a few homeowners all in a rural section of Madison County tried to carve a new town out of the trailer camp and rename it Brooksville. The only law would be the Ten Commandments. There would be a volunteer mayor but no other town official. Every adult citizen would have a gun or a pistol and they would protect each other. Of course that unconstitutional theocratic and religious idea never got off the ground. How could it?

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

There ya go. It's the First Amendment. See the part about "No law respecting and establishment of religion"? What that means is that Judge Ray Moore, as an agent of the government, on government property cannot place Christian symbols in the courthouse.

Let's look at Madison's intent when crafting the 1st Amendment.....

"Madison's original proposal for a bill of rights provision concerning religion read: ''The civil rights of none shall be abridged on account of religious belief or worship, nor shall any national religion be established, nor shall the full and equal rights of conscience be in any manner, or on any pretence, infringed.'' 1 The language was altered in the House to read: ''Congress shall make no law establishing religion, or to prevent the free exercise thereof, or to infringe the rights of conscience.'' 2 In the Senate, the section adopted read: ''Congress shall make no law establishing articles of faith, or a mode of worship, or prohibiting the free exercise of religion, . . .''

See how the founders were thinking? They had come from a society that had a state religion, and knew that Government and Religion should not intersect.

And also, the Pilgrims are not Americans. They did not conform to the US Constitution. So what the "Pilgrims" came to do is irrelevant.

James Madison to Edward Livingston

July 10, 1822

Notwithstanding the general progress made within the two last centuries in favour of this branch of liberty, & the full establishment of it, in some parts of our Country, there remains in others a strong bias towards the old error, that without some sort of alliance or coalition between Govt. & Religion neither can be duly supported. Such indeed is the tendency to such a coalition, and such its corrupting influence on both the parties, that the danger cannot be too carefully guarded agst. And in a Govt. of opinion, like ours, the only effectual guard must be found in the soundness and stability of the general opinion on the subject. Every new & successful example therefore of a perfect separation between ecclesiastical and civil matters, is of importance. And I have no doubt that every new example, will succeed, as every past one has done, in shewing that religion & Govt. will both exist in greater purity, the less they are mixed together. It was the belief of all sects at one time that the establishment of Religion by law, was right & necessary; that the true religion ought to be established in exclusion of every other; And that the only question to be decided was which was the true religion. The example of Holland proved that a toleration of sects, dissenting from the established sect, was safe & even useful. The example of the Colonies, now States, which rejected religious establishments altogether, proved that all Sects might be safely & advantageously put on a footing of equal & entire freedom; and a continuance of their example since the declaration of Independence, has shewn that its success in Colonies was not to be ascribed to their connection with the parent Country. If a further confirmation of the truth could be wanted, it is to be found in the examples furnished by the States, which have abolished their religious establishments. I cannot speak particularly of any of the cases excepting that of Virga. where it is impossible to deny that Religion prevails with more zeal, and a more exemplary priesthood than it ever did when established and patronised by Public authority. We are teaching the world the great truth that Govts. do better without Kings & Nobles than with them. The merit will be doubled by the other lesson that Religion flourishes in greater purity, without than with the aid of Govt.

"separation of church and state does not mean separation of God and government"- Roy Moore

Hun?confused
The Church was never a member of government, just because God wouldn't allow it in that terms...

"often enough, in historical Europe, churches became the pawns of governments to silence dissent and gather information; and eventually to subvert the church for the needs of government.Even now, in the middle east, the Iranian governments use it's Mosques as recruitment of terrorits camps and sacrifice it's followers for political ends"

Mixing church and government, the issues biggin to be defiened as good or evil, instead of fair or not fair.
The liberties that were conquired up to this extend would be shocking with the church's belives.
The long way to God has different approches.Which one is the most correct?

If a country is composed by differnt religions, because of it's variety in culture...which one should be more noctorious?Isn't this a way of instigating intolerance?

I echo the sentiment regarding crackpot and grandstanding. I remember it well - I found it revolting.

I love my religion, and it is personal to me. I don't need it dictated to me by any government institution, or for that matter, a courthouse.

Just my .02.
