Movies are not real? That is called acting and pretending. Americans don't pretend as much, we just keep it real and people who get all their information from the movies are lacking in the creative thinking area....we don't consider them the brightest bulbs. They don't really know what is going on...they listen to soundbytes, parrot what they hear and cause trouble for the rest of us. Most of us do our own thinking.

I am sure there are many british people who can determine real, from pretend, as well.

I think most Americans care very much for their fellow man. The year after 9-11, my book club went to New York. I really thought I was going to find New Yorkers to be rude and uncaring because of all that I had read and seen in movies etc. They were wonderful people....very helpful. They love their city and they wanted us to love it too.

Outside the cities it is amazing how kind and caring people are as a matter of course. In the cities people still care they are just so busy keeping their own lives together that they seem to have no time for others. For two years after 9/11 New York was a wonderfully warm and supportive community. Gradually things went back to the usual, each individual trying to survive. My theory is that when too many people try to fit in one space community spirit breaks down because no one gets enough personal space. JMO.

Very good insight. There is an artist, Mary Englebreit, who uses the saying, 'Everyone needs their own space.' It might only be a tiny corner, but that is so true.

Ok, too funny. Constantly amazes me how foreigners forget they are just watching a movie (or do you believe that every Brit is another Benny Hill ?) These are fiction, completely dramatized for entertainment purposes. Even those “based on a true story” have a little bit of fine print saying that name, locations etc have been changed, and certain parts were created for dramatic affect.

Sure, our sucky govt may have left New Orleans hanging, but we had regular citizens from all over going down to help.

And as far as the Irish being the most loving, will NEVER believe that (sorry, but my ex’s family was very Irish, and just don’t even get me started). But seriously, I would have thought it would have been the Italians, if anyone. And different cultures show love in different ways, so who would really know “standing on the outside” of it and not even knowing what you are really seeing?

To a degree I think the remarks about the city being colder than the out lying areas, I think that concrete just makes people stupid. And where you find the most concrete, seems you also find the most greed, crime, …

Americans by far care more about money, thats how we ended up with Bushie in the white house 2 terms. Our society has de evolved to that point where greed rules. All thanks to 6 years of GOP rule

hey gillyloves69, my advice...go find out on your own. too many people in europe love to bash usa, then enjoy american music and products invented or developed there.

good and bad people exist everywhere. as far as greed...europe competes very well as many here like to go after euros.

in america, depending on where you go, many people are bright and very helpful. corporate america and governent is all about money, but not most people in general in the states. go see for yourself.
yay peace

Honey, what do you think the Civil War was about and where did those people come from? We have a lot of educated, compassionate people in America also along with the very rich the very poor and the very ignorant.

I want to say educated and compassionate but you don't have to have an education to be compassionate.
