This person is in prison paying for his crime whatever it is and while there is getting plenty of time to think through his crime.
There has been many people that came out of prison to be better people since they don't take their freedom for granted and have had time to get to know them self better.
If your friend is willing to take the chance thats her affair and you need to focus your own control on your own life.
