maryrachelleBathurst, New Brunswick Canada27 Threads 1,370 PostsI have heard a lot of men complaining about paying for dates . I was really wondering if most men really don't believe in paying for the woman anymore ,or if this is a case of a few loudmouths.
Wow good one......I myself, since I do have male friends, we usually fight for the bill

I never expect the man to pay - if he insists then I usually try to split it in some way - leave the tip or pay the next time.
I haven't been on many dates but I have never run into men who complain or even bring it up.

I don't mind if she pays.
Had one date recently which was for drinks. She showed up starving and ordered salmon steak. That was fine.
I just never asked for the bill. Eventually she did. The way I figure, whoever asks for the bill, pays. And that's what happened. She didn't mind, either.
Nobody was offended and we had a good time.

I wouldn't expect a lady to pay for her date. If a man asks her out, then it's up to him to see to it that the lady has a good time

Well I would think that if the man asked me out for a date then I would assume he will be footing the bill for it since he suggested it first.
Now if we were just friends and nothing more I can understand we pay our own seperate outing(s) etc..
I think it can go both ways too. I mean if I were to ask a guy out for a date then my intention would be to be the responsible one who pays since I first offered and made the suggestion.
But I think not all men are like that. There might be a few cheapo's and loudmouths out there as well lol

a gentleman though I believe its important to balance it with
being yourself.

If the first date is for coffee, I usually arrive first and buy my own. If the first date is something more elaborate than that, which generally means we've corresponded for a much longer period, I am usually insisted out of the paying picture. In such a case, I usually insist on the second date. 
I believe in fairness. I also am flattered by chilvalry. Money isn't such a big issue for me tho. It isn't something I focus on in new beginnings. But then I'm usually looking for something different, I suspect.
For those men who complain about paying? I suspect they go on more dates for the casualness of the affair than explore for potential partners. In that case, "chilvalry" would get expensive. Certainly not as expensive as alternatives, tho!
My final thought? You get what you pay for!
