My family's trauma

Mario Mamo wrote:

On Saturday 4 August, at 2115hrs, I was driving to Birzebbugia from Hal Far Road to ‘Tal-Gebel’ Road, with my wife and my mum in the back seat.

Suddenly three immigrants stopped in the middle of the road ahead of me, and I had no alternative but to stop and ask them to move, while locking the windows of the car and flashing the lights. Two of them did move but the third one held on to the bullbar of the car and stood there for a while, then moved to the side of the car and started hitting the bonnet of the car with his fist.

Since it was a feast day at Birzebbugia, I had to park the car at the outskirts of the village and walk to the police station. After my family and I explained this traumatic experience to five Maltese policemen, the first question I was sarcastically asked was: “Am I ready to go to Hal Far barracks and identify the persons involved? I am convinced that there are few persons on the island who could identify coloured people at 1000hrs in the morning, figure out at 2100hrs at night, in the middle of a road with no lights at all.

After a report was drafted I was asked to go back on Wednesday after 2100hrs to the Birzebbugia police station so they can have a look at the damages in the car.

This did not convince me so I drove up to the Zejtun Police Station and went through the whole story once again. The very helpful sergeant on duty came to look at the car and noticed a lot of finger prints which in his opinion could help to identify the perpetrator.

Back at the station the sergeant contacted the Birzebbugia police station and advised the police there that he inspected the car so I do not have to go back on Wednesday. He also contacted the Police Inspector on duty and asked him for permission to take finger prints from the car, and try to match them with finger prints of the migrants stationed at Hal Far. For reasons that I still do not know, the sergeant told me that his superiors advised that there is no need for all this, and asked me to come on Monday pay Lm3 and collect the report, which I have to give to the insurance agency so they can handle my claim.

This is really unjust! I am a Maltese citizen who has been paying taxes for the last 35 years. My property was abused and damaged in front of my family, and I now have to pay for the damages done deliberately by a foreign person for whom I also pay taxes to provide him with food and shelter. In return, local police treat us as second class citizens.

I cannot understand this, and that is why I am exposing all this to the public.

After a sleepless night, the first thing I have done this morning was to contact the police headquarters. After listening to the military marches on the telephone operator service for over an hour I was passed on to the forensic division. The sergeant on duty patiently listened to my request but informed me that he could not help me out unless he is authorised by the inspector of the south region. He also told me that I am 100% right but (quoting) “try to avoid Birzebbugia and Marsa, as after sunset both places do not belong to us anymore.”

Once again this is unfair, unjust and simply not right. Such words from a police officer raise lots of questions.

I hope that is letter is read by people in parliament and some sort of action is taken.

While talking about the incident with people living in Birzebbugia, I confirmed that such accidents are being repeated day after day. This is simply not on. I am a 52 year old person and tried to live according to all the laws and regulations through all my life, and as from today I say that the law administrators thought me a lesson.

I ask you God - do not let me go through this again.

It's unfortunate but it happens all the time, if the Government do nothing, or open their eyes to what is happening in this little island the people are going to take matters into their own hands very soon, this article was in Saturdays Times.................Not only are he or we paying for the illegals in humanitarian terms but also employment too......employers pay the illegals about forty percent of their wages, the ETC .....ie the taxpayer pays the rest.........we are subsidizing the illegals.............no wonder there are so many unemployed maltese..............
I totally disagree with illegal immigration, this only strengthens my mind to the idea of sending them all back to where they came from...........there are too many do gooders, that think they are doing these people a favour, but to the detriment of the local population.
where I work there are a total of nearly 50 illegals working amongst a workforce on 350........is this cheap labour? Is the Government forcing employers to take these people? Marsa is another no go area, should a family of illegals be able to buy property there all other house prices will go down rapidly, no one will buy tolive next to another family of illegal immigrants......it's happened in the Uk for over fifty years.........people need to open their eyes to what is happening here....the UK is and was a blueprint

I am one of those people who say give them a chance and help them out, it could have been me in the situation. Having said that if it was me driving, I would not have stopped the car!!! As if I would stop and have these f*ckers attack me or damage my car. I don't care if I run him over, I'm only protecting myself!!

I did not realise that this is going on here. I always assumed that people exagerate when they talk about incidents that happen with these illegal immigrants involved. In fact I searched the internet to make sure this article was publiushed on the online newspapers because I recieved it through e-mail...and there it was!!

So from now on, yes I agree, send them back to where they came from!! very mad

Would you believe he was speaking from experience........I know many of the Maritime Squadron......the illegals aer telling them to keep the boats they come in, as we....the maltese will need them in the future...............the illegals are going to take over. Wait till a race relations board is appointed.............an enployer won't even be able to tell them no as the illegal will go to the board and scream racial discrimination because of skin colour. Certain words will be outlawed, programs on tv and radio will be scrutinized for racial comments etc................this is just the beginning .....more will follow

Foreigners will buy your property because you sell it to them - even at an exaggerate price - but you Islanders who have nothing to sell will blame the forgeigners doh

foreigners are arriving as immigrants - legal or illigal and you blame them to for taking places Maltese Governement has no laws and no system to legalize or integrate those people ... how about voting in a more human sence of making things right for all without paranoya and giving chances to all and every one in a non corrupt Governement ??yay peace

A more humane Government? What do you wish us to do? Allow every illegal immigrant a house and a job? If there are no houses, do we put them in to hotels?......Get real..........the majority of the illegals are social parasites, they know the west will provide for them once they get here no matter what...............no government gives more residency or refugee permits per capita than the maltese government.............you have a problem, come here and see how it affects the local population. We are too few to absorb the ever increasing numbers of illegal immigrants.
They do take our jobs, they do have free medicines, they do have free medical treatment, all of which we pay for.....they all have mobile phones, they are all well fed and well clothed and well looked after, The maltese Government is kowtowing to the European Parliment in the treatment of the illegals, we have no choice anymore on how to treat them, not even allowed to repatriate them straight away as Italy and Spain do

My question is: Just like when a Maltese citizen steps out of line and has to go through court and sentenced to jail for the crime he committed, how do these stories with illegal immigrants end up? Do they pay for the crimes as well? Or do they just get away with it? This Police officer seems to be accepting their crimes!!! dunno

I too am fully against this whole issue of keeping or rather "hosting" these people. I'm afraid to say it's getting out of hand now.

Couple of months ago was invited to a party around Zurrieq area so we had to wait to meet up some friends so we could follow each other to our destination. As soon as we stopped close to a round a bout in Hal Far i noticed we were being surrounded by these immigrants so we locked the windows & we drove off as fast as the car could go. Of course we were terrified because some were running behind us & we ended up in an unknown dark area. I am so thankful we own mobile phones as these so called technology "toys" saved us to contact our friends. I even had my deodorant spray can ready as my only safe resort, other than that i don't want to think what could have become of us.

So having experienced this true scary incident i wish we as maltese citizens protest against these immigrants who are taking away our freedom & not just send them back but not even let them get to our shores.

Let's protect our children & our friendly island which we are all proud of.

I'm all for being humane... but it's becoming a *really sad and sorry state*. People who have young kids would really understand the concern about their future. There is hardly enough space for us Maltese here....besides all *other* repercussions.

Hoping the case of *laissez-faire* doesn't slowly creep in on us.... it will then be way too late.

sigh

immunity for the illegals?laugh no baby. They get sentenced as well. Normal proceedure. They can be extradict to their home countries, meaning, they can send to jail in their home country if the crime is punished in his home country. Otherwise, if no normal proceedure, he can be deported, declaired persona non grata.

In Portugal, first thing you have to do when you get there is to get a social number in order to pay taxes, no matter if you are illegal.

That incident is only scratching the surface Brunette, a shame you don't speak to the soldiers and police like i do.....a real eye opener. Half of the crime rate in Bugibba and Qawra is by the illegals.......this from a police seargeant.........no politics involved, figures aren't getting distorted by this man
