I am doing a narrative essay on this.......it was a difficult read but once I got passed the first few paragraphs, I rather got into it. I think it makes a difference reading this at my age.......we discussed it in class today and most of the kids couldn't understand it nor did they try.
Anyways.....was wondering if anybody has ever read this and if so, what is your take on the story?
sorry, no, I havent read it either but what about looking on amazon at the reviews or just googling reviews of it - which you probably already have done but....... just trying to help
when Im doing essays I do the above and google book search is pretty good too
A great story which to me summed up the emptiness of modern life with it's emphasis on financial achievement.
Perhaps we may all reach similar stages of futility which Bartleby seems to have reached in his humble acceptance of the world about him.
The contrast between what should be a vibrant financial life and the utter dispassion of the surroundings and of Bartleby himself only enhance the total sadness of the tale which inevitably lead to a death , if he can be considered to be alive at all.
