I'm seriously thinking of giving up cigerrettes, not because of the health benifits (i don't want to live forever)but because of the friggin cost involved. $12.40 for a pack of PJ 30's means i'm dropping $130.20 a week on the things. How do I give them the flick..

The best way to stop smoking is to stop smoking.

But seriously something that will help is amking a concious effort to smole or not. You smoke because your body wants you to or because "it's time to have a snoke" not usualy because YOU want to. Start realy mulling over if YOU realy want one just now. Do things like sayto yur body "nope, you gonna have to wait. THink I'll have one ha;f an hour from now." you can even decide on each puff. A month of that and you'll be a little more in charge of the habbit and be able to stop slightly easier.

When you do decide to stop. Spend the same amount you would on vitamins especialy the B group. Take loads three times a day. And at your usual smoke times go for a walk instead. DONT DRINK! or if you do limit it to 2 drinks. Everytime it gets hard go for a walk.

This'll take your mind off it cos yuo have to look around. When walking get interested in your surroundings.

Once you stop you must decide you're a non-smoker. Don't even do a puff again one puff you'l be back on in under a month.

Good luck! You look young enough that'll It worth the effort. Every time you try it get harder. Also reward yourself spend the $130 on something you want. New clothes pc game, what ever.

Thanx 4 some good advice 'help you' I have taken on board what you have put to me and will try to put it in to practise. You are right about the b vitimins, I have been taking b-12 in order to cleanse my system and found it has helped. I had hoped to limit the amount I was smoking by only having half of each cigerette and discarding the dog ends, but that has just meant I am smoking twice as much (thus spending twice as much). This is a foolish system I realise now in retrospect..I will try the do something else method (go for a walk etc) and I am confident this will work. thanx again..

Thanx 4 your kind words 'Lou79' you have inspired me to make a serious attempt at going cold turkey startng tomorrow at lunchtime (i still have half a pack left). The house is looking abit shabby so I will try the 'do something else' method as suggested by yourself and 'Help you' as this seems like the best way to go. I want to go to Scotland at the end of the year and that is the inspiration I will use. Thanks 'Lou79' and 'Help you'.

Um i was a social smoker for years... just smoked when i was drinking.
Then something not nice happened and i took it up and ended up a pack a day...for about a year. Then got the flu really bad. That put me off. Then i flamin well started again... managed to stop this is how i did it.

For one week go without your smoke on the way to work

For one week go without your smoke on the way to work and during work

For two weeks only smoke after work hours, except the first cigarette of the day but after that no smoking till you get home from work

For two weeks only have one cigarette when you get up and one when before you go to bed... then nock out one of those then finally the last cigarette....

I found this worked really well it was gradual, and i did not go into shock or denial, if you are not a cold turkey person this works really well.

Then only smoke if you go to parties... but give the packet away to someone else when you go to go home. Eventually you will be able to stop smoking completely. Though i still have cravings when i am drinking.. dont think that will ever stop. I just have the odd one every now and then i probably smoke about five rolly cigarettes a year

barf barf and i hate the smell of tailors but love having the odd rolly.
