"And how exactly does that make not want freedom? "

I see, so you want freedom but you are absolutely opposed to it. Good answers (though most are just questions).

See what I mean? People *think* they want freedom, but they have just too many objections to freedom. So they end up wanting freedom at the same time they are terrified of it.

Well, you can't have your cake and eat it. Sorry about that but I didn't create this universe.

I don't know what universe you didn't create but you sure are in your own dimension.

"Freedom" has always been a myth, a rallying cry for troops, an illusion. Yes, we all strive for freedom and we would all die defending our rights against a tyrant but to cut off aid to the needy, children and elderly in the name of freedom is not freedom, it's ignorance.
We DO have some liberties and ARE allowed to do anything we wish to do, especially when it means bettering ourselves and helping others.
But 100% freedom would be anarchy and in that sense, no, I don't need THAT freedom!

Yeah man! Kunalini and all that.

You are right though, freedom lies within us, like fingerprints. Freedom is an integral part of our nature. We have eyes and ears and brains and hands..... to learn, to think and decide, and finally, to act.

I think you have already aptly made your point. You do not believe in freedom.

As you say, "We DO have some liberties." The government leaves us wth enough money and autonomy to decide which jeans and cd's we want to buy.

I find this very interesting. Why don't you have the courage to just come right out and say it? The thought of freedom disgusts you?

What disgusts me are the illusions we've been spoon-fed all our lives. From the moment we were born we were taught a bunch of crap that really make no sense once we free our mind and really see what the world is. You think this air you breathe, this body you inhabit and this food you eat is reality? You really you'd be free once you have it your way?

As for "freedom", I believe I've already made my point.

oh, I get it. You think we are all actually living in some kind of artificial womb like in that movie, "Matrix," with electrodes or whatever plugged into our brains That's a very interesting theory and, who knows, you may be right.

"As for "freedom", I believe I've already made my point." Yeah, I guess I missed it.

I remind you that in my original post I said I would ask a few questions and, depending upon the answers, I would be able to determine if a respondent actually believes in freedom. You, obviously, do not. Hence, I believe I too have made my point.

WOW! I really needed you to tell me what I believe! Thanks a lot, next time I want to believe in something, I'll make sure to ask you whether I believe it or want to believe it or don't believe it at all!!!

And correcting my typos is really childish, along with that Matrix reference. I suppose you're going to tell me what I'm thinking now and if I really need to be on this site, huh?

Well, friend, maybe I don't know your definition of freedom but I can tell you that I know what freedom means to me and I can tell you that I am free. I'm even free to break the law if I want to, I just wouldn't like the consequences.
And just because there are some things not right with our government doesn't mean I'm not free.
Have you ever lived under a dictator? I'm sure if you had, you wouldn't have posted this thread.

Well, old chum buddy, buddy, boo.... I am reminded by something I heard many, many moons ago... a guy told me the author Leo Tolstoy said, "It is true because I want it to be true."

So I guess I should be happy for you. You think you are free. So it matters little to you the myriad of rules, laws, taxes, tarrifs, quotas, fees, edicts and prohibitions imposed upon you by other men.

Like a rat in a maze you bounce from wall to wall believing that your ability to respond to range of the moment stimulae is "freedom" because, at least, you have the final say as to whether or not you will break the law.

You are absolutely right. Freedom doesn't mean anarchy. There have to be rules. But the rules should apply equally to all citizens.

When the rules do not apply equally, as is the case throughout the world today, you have anarchy. He who carries the biggest stick gets his way whether it's Uncle Sam dropping bombs on people or Uncle Joe voting for the thieving politician who promises to dig deeper into Uncle Joe's neighbours pocket for a bigger social security cheque and free drugs.

How about this rule - do unto others as you would have others do unto you?

*You* did.... I think.... but I will admit, attempting to extract any real meaning from your posts does present a challenge.

You said, "Yes, we all strive for freedom and we would all die defending our rights against a tyrant."

"We" would, would "we"? Try speaking for yourself.

Yeah, I am sure, based upon the foregoing discussion, that you are a guy I would want to count upon to "die defending your rights against a tyrant." Man you're a real Patrick Henry aren't you.

True, you carefully evaded making a commitment on either side of the question. You would not come right out and admit, as I requested, that you don't value freedom.

Are you one of those guys who, when he say's "we should...." conveniently exempts *himself* from that collective?

And if you are not someone merely pretending to believe in freedom, if in fact you are someone who was mischaracterized as saying, or somehow implying, you believe in freedom, why would you claim it to be something "we all strive for?"doh
