After years of study and observation I have come to this conclusion: people *say* they believe in freedom. It usually takes no more than five or ten minutes of conversation to learn that they don't really believe in freedom at all, though curiously, they continue to *think* they believe in freedom.

I have a challenge for anyone here. If you think you believe in freedom tell me. Then I will ask you a few questions. Your answers will reveal that you do not really believe in freedom, or you believe in freedom for yourself but not for others. Or you believe that the freedom of some people can legitimately arise from the restriction of the freedom of others.

I will be bold enough to predict that no more than about two per cent of you truly believe in freedom.

Any takers?

I am not at all sure theat people understand what freedom is anymore.

People go on about their rights and what should pertain in their various situations without being willing to shoulder any responsibility at all, everything that goes wrong is someone else's problem to mend.

And it is the new trend to let the bureaucrats strip away personal freedoms, as Englishman says, without even registering how circumscribed life is becoming.

I am with you on this one englishman, here we just seem to take whatever is thrown at us, freedom of speech, not without permission from the authorities! have to be politically correct at all times....

Even nursery ryhmes have been changed!!!!!!!!!

Try and go with a banner or placard into a town center and see how quickly the police arrive, and as far as CCTV........ don't get me started on that one

OK. Here are a couple of questions for you.

Should the government be involved in the charity (welfare) business?

Should the government be involved in the education business?

Should the government be paying people's medical bills?

Do you agree that income should be taxed?

Do you ever watch those shows like "COPS," and applaud armed thugs who break into people's homes and terrorize the occupants because they choose to take non-medicinal drugs?

Thank you for the response. You believe in some degree of freedom but you also think the government should pay people's medical bills.

Therefore, you do and don't believe in freedom simultaneoulsy. Clearly, you are willing to abolish freedom for some in order to provide medical care for others.

Conclusion: Though generally rather generous in granting autonomy to others you would, nevertheless, employ the coercive power of the state to promote your own opinions. You don't really believe in freedom.

who is who to judge if anybody should rate one another on there opinion of freedom. Freedom lies in us like the finger prints which we are born with. If you believe and have an open mind to what ever crosses your path then you believe in freedom peace
