“lady luck”.... We all know her or think we do. A fortunate event we cannot easily explain has luck's smile written all over it and the contrary also bears the name of her devious sister “bad luck”. Yet what is it about this entity we do understand? Some believe luck smiles or frowns upon certain people due to kismet, karma, or coincidence and others put a strong emphasis on a certain way of thinking and behaving that create good fortune in their lives. Yet Christian and Islamic religions believe in the will of a supreme being rather than luck as the primary influence in future events. The degrees of this Divine Providence vary greatly from one person to another; however, most acknowledge providence as at least a partial, if not complete influence in their lives. So is luck just the product of our mind trying to wrap itself around a complex yet very tangible notion or has the world, in its ignorance created an idol for something far more sinister? My take on this subject might be incomprehensible to some or taken as matter of fact to yet others as I say every pebble thrown in a pond makes ripples or “ as a clean man thinketh so also shall it be”.
