Someone give me some advice, please! ( Archived) (39)

Nov 28, 2007 3:44 AM CST Someone give me some advice, please!
My kids are 5, 2 and 1. My two girls, the older ones, started waking really early recently and going in to wake up their brother. This was happeneing between 4 and 7 am. It drove me mad, so I told them that father christmas would take a present away for each time they did it (yes, it is that wonderful time of year again where santa can be used as a threat). Anyway, they stopped going into his room, but they have found mischief elsewhere instead.

In the last two mornings, they have got up, unravelled a toilet roll in each bathroom, covered the living room carpet in crackers and two boxes of cereal, and poured two bottles of juice into the sink.

What can I do. Someone help me. I am going out of my mind. I can't put a lock on their door.

Is it the both of them or is one leading and other one following. I would play on the older girl being a big girl and say to her will you help me as i know your a big girl and i can trust you. I think**** is to little to get up that early in the morning. and she is going to hurt her self, And as your your a big girl will you stay in bed and try and get **** to stay in bed. If she gets out of bed come and fetch mummy and we put her back to bed , All the time playing to ego.

I don't see that they did anything that bad really. I think you may need to get up early yourself til you get a handle on it.

When I was 5, I got into an empty flat and painted it all myself. Windows and all.

Yes I got my Butt whipped!crying

You could allways put a bell on their door to wake you and then you could xatch them in the act and march them back to bed untill it stopped. I might take a couple of sleepless night but it would be worth it. Do it like that nanny on TV first say back to bed sweetheart second time back to bed the next few times nothing just out them in bed with out saying any thing

help as i tell my daughter with her 2 little girls 3 and 2
remember when she was that age and the things to did
than remember what happen when she did those things
her oldest daughter is like her when she was that age

the only bad thing is what works for 1,may not work for the other one
you just have to find out what works for each one
but you can always go old school and tear their butts up
innocent

if they're getting up at that time then perhaps u might want to consider keeping them up a bit later so they'll sleep longer. just a thought

tell them the next time they do bad things like that, you will take one toy that they love away, and donate it to charity, not to be ever given back. It may take one time, but if you follow through, there won't be a second time.

is there something "special" they might be allowed to do when they wake up so early while they wait for you to wake up and say show the 5 yr old a clock with big hands and when the hands are in such place they can hop into bed with you for a hug coz they've been good ... dunno

Well, this mornings trail of destruction included

A punnet of cherry tomatoes squashed into the living room floor
12 fairy cakes eaten
3 dvd bought for xmas opened and scratched
Living room trashed

I could cry. I tried talking to them yesterday, and they both promised not to do it again, but it has happened. I just don't know what to do anymore.crying

I had the same problem with my boys when they were younger.

I had to use a door alarm so I would wake up when they opened their door in the morning...sounds extreme...but everything else failed.

Good luck Karen

u tried putting locks on the doors of the rooms you'd rather they didn't go in? that way they could be confined to their own room - with access to yours if they need you. just little screw on locks would suffice and would undoubtedly save you all the hassle.

I was lucky when mine got up early they just went into the livingroom and turned on the cartoons. Well until I hid the remote control and unplugged the tv at night. When they couldn't turn on the tv they started climbing in bed with me. I also put a bell on the outside of their door so I could hear their door open.

The problem is, I am almost totally deaf at the moment because of a sinus infection, so I don't even hear them moving about. I would put an alarm outside their door, but my daughter gets up for a wee several times in the night.

I must call supernanny! lol

seriously karen.........put a small lock on the living room and kitchen doors so they don't have access. obviously, leave access to the toilet and to your room. that'll stop them. might even persuade them to stay in bed if they don't have so much to get up for.
