The sky is chill, is grey with rags of cloud to mark the east wind’s path across the heaven; yet all the trees are still, no chatter in their branches, from the leaves or from the birds, no movement in the half light as night sinks westward, vampire running from the coming fire; the sun will rise will burn the errant mist will sear the sky to aching blue, will light the surface of the sea stray gleams falling to the bottom bringing colour where they pass. The world will howl, will chirp will stretch, will scratch and grunt will cry, will laugh, will raise a hand in love, in anger, will…oh all sorts of things, as kettles steam as smaller fires heat the pots and pans all filled with food to start my island nation on its journey into Thursday.

I remember a winter where all the trees became translucent, cased in ice, with the lights shining through their extra skin refracting into rainbows. It was magical.

with rags of cloud
to mark the east wind’s path
across the heaven;
yet all the trees are still,
no chatter in their branches,
from the leaves
or from the birds,
no movement in the half light
as night sinks westward,
vampire running
from the coming fire;
the sun will rise
will burn the errant mist
will sear the sky to aching blue,
will light the surface of the sea
stray gleams falling to the bottom
bringing colour where they pass.
The world will howl, will chirp
will stretch, will scratch and grunt
will cry, will laugh, will raise a hand
in love, in anger, will…oh
all sorts of things, as kettles steam
as smaller fires heat the pots and pans
all filled with food to start my island nation
on its journey into Thursday.
Good morning all.
