Waht is with kids now a days ??

My brothers went shopping with my dad and guess what after all my appeals that its a waste of time and money pls dont do this they brought a home theatre set ..

I just dont get it !! They want everything thats on TV and yes , they watch style updates and have a list of shopping items for the year round which gets updated every month.

I am unable to decide if its our way of teaching them the ways of life or is it the zing generation that they belong to !!!mumbling

The world is getting smaller and cultures are influencing each other...good and bad influences go hand in hand. Kids have been doing this in America for decades now Riya. In fact most marketing is geared towards kids...advertisers want to capture those kids early on.

I hate to say this but i am strictly against early consumerism for kids. They have no idea who they are and what they need .. its a list of aimless wants.

It's a sad commentary on commericalism and also on parenting skills. Parents shouldn't get a free pass on this issue.

I have spent time in a class about alcoholism. I went there for my own benefit as well for a work project when I was able to work. The class showed the alcohol industry never gear their ads to people who are legal age drinkers. But to underage people on the verge of starting to drink. When most people start drinking, they usually pick one brand and stick with it their whole lives. That can be said with most products...it's sad, but that is today's world.

I guess you need to remind your siblings, buyer beware and not fall for flashy advertising.

I know.. I don't know what it is like where you are but money has all but ruined Irish kids... there still sweet and all, but a six year old would now 'refuse' to wear certain items for fear of not fitting in... apart from liking 'pretty' things.. I didn't really know the difference when I was a kid angel smile

thumbs up

I know when we decide whether we want a child or not and are committed to providing them the best of the vital needs and more ( depending .. on affordability ) we cant get away as innocent bystanders.sigh

i dont know if im one of a few or not

but my kids dont have a tv in their rooms.........because i think that separates us as a family, we either watch tv together .......... or if there is something they want to watch and i dont want to, they watch it while i sort the house out, or go on the comp

my computer isnt in the office, i dont have an office in my house, its too small, so the computer is in the living room

and thats what the room really is ..."the living room"

a friend of mine has a 7 year old daughter ........who talks with an american accent .......nothing wrong with that if youre american ..........but shes not

its from being sat for hours and hours in front of cartoon network or the disney channel, just so her mother can " get some rest"

they do go out to play tho .......... i think its really important for kids to go out and run around and be mad for a few hours a day

we have a lot of pet animals here, and rain, snow or shine ...........THEY HAVE to go do their animal duties, of cleaning out hutches and animal runs, and putting out fresh food and water

a neighbour told me off once cos it was snowing and my 7 year old was out cleaning the hutch ........ i told the neighbour ........ shes got a coat with a hood on, she is warm enough, its not the animals fault its snowing, the rabbit needs to be safe, warm and clean too
oh and btw ....... my kids hardly ever get colds

they want what they see on tv ........ of course they do ..... and sometimes they get it ...... but not all of the time, and are a bit young yet to be swayed by the big fashion labels

its all high school musical stuff in my house atm

Life is almost an oxymoron. Even I don't walk the walk.... If my grandaughter wanted something, I'd probably run out and buy it; knowing she probably really didn't need it. But then, that's what grandparents are for..........(so I get a pass)

grin

Thats what i would do if i had kids. Let them be kids when they are kids and teach them how to enjoy the little and most pleasurable things in life.
