One in 4 women and 1 in 10 men can expect to develop depression according to medical stats so it's quite prevalent today, mainly due to the high pressure society we live in today I would assume....So it's a reality that at some point we will probably enter a relationship with someone who is dealing with it!!!!!!!!
I hate to say it, but it would be working on thier depression. I get depressed now and again, but I think everybody does, we are human, and can't be happy all the time. My sister does not do well on depression, she is so needy, she pretty much wants to sit on the couch and have us support her, clean for her, shop for her, or what ever. She is not doing well.
I have a huge amount of study to do this year; I am preparing to write a doctrine on morals and ethics, reason and conduct. I have to re-read Immanuel Kant's 'Groundwork for the Metaphysics of Morals', Schopenhauer's 'Basis of Morality', Spinoza's 'Ethics', Aristotle's 'N- Ethics', Plato's 'Republic' AND more . . .
(I refuse to rely on masticated philosophical interpretations - like my 'fellow' lesser mortal!!!)
If you want to learn philosophy, you learn it - from the philosophers!!!
This is an awesome thread-subject and I would have posted a large amount on it if it had been made before Christmas - I am a very miserable person myself, and a complete pessimist . . . maybe even a Nihilist.
But the greatest consolation I can give to the totally depressed is that if you think this world exists for your happiness and for you to be happy, then you are very misguided. I am quite certain that life is not something to be enjoyed but endured. And that pain is positive and pleasure negative, in so far as pleasure weakens and pain strengthens, and in so far as pain teaches - and pleasure deludes!!!
Sadness, misery, despair and desperation have been the best things I have ever known! I wish them upon you all!!!
There can be no healing where there are no wounds and better yet where there are no graves there can be no - resurrections!!!
I will be appearing less on CS, unfortunately - or fortunately, for many a lesser intellect. But I hope to post some philosophical questions that may aid me in my studies and to see people's responses and opinions. Unfortunately, the herd-minded opinions of most people on CS are of no worth to me. Maybe someone will surprise me.
I'd suggest weed killer Ray, but thou shalt not kill
I don't know how you do it Ray.????. I mean get up every day with such a bleek existence to look forward to. Actually I do know ... hope ... we all have it, that positive possibility that maybe tomorrow will be better when we wake up. Without you'd just up and die and then you'd be showing up at the pearly gates in the cloths you got dead in ..
Your no pessimist Ray, convincing yourself that you are is just part of your nature.

I do not agree. The world doesn't exist for my happiness, but I was created to be happy. Pain is a great motivator and teacher, because through it you learn what not to do.
Without pain there would be no pleasure. Without pleasure there would be no life.
