smoky: When we turn inwards, we shrivel. When we turn outward we grow spiritually. Strip away the trappings and adornments .... and what is left?...the bare essential Self.

I have to disagree with this one. My sense and experience tells me that the outside is but a mere reflection of what's on the inside. It's not until we sort out the inside that the outside will then change. Everything we seek is inside. As long as we yearn and search for something outside of ourselves, we will remain somewhat lost. Only the ego seeks to find answers outside, but the soul or spirit or whatever you wish to call it asks us to look only inwards. To put an icon or whatever first before self leads to the illusion the ego seeks to create. My view is that all the things we seek are to be found inside. grin

If you read Cuspomagics post after mine on the previous page, and also the opening statement to the thread, you`d see what I was getting at......

... "Turning outward" as opposed to shrinking inwardly, in order to grow spiritually, without the use of Icons - this does not mean "observing the outer shell and ignoring the inner self" .... or looking at the trappings of the outward appearance.

Turning inward, being self-centred, being of closed mind, single tracked, the use of icons for spiritual enhancement, is encompassed within "turning inwards", hence my use of the word "shrivel".

When what you seek is found within, tis of no use until it is manifested outwardly.

The Soul does not grow by addition, but by subtraction.

That is SO true! I`m always trying to help my wealthy friends with their Soul Growth ..... but they insist on holding on to all those trappings they got. I tell them my soul has finished its growing so will not be affected as much as their baby souls....... Nope, they stay stubborn!conversing wink cheers
