I went to the airport yesterday to picky my friends who had just come back from scuba diving in the Red Sea.
I was sitting in the arrivals lounge of Stuttgart airport and the usual hustle and bustle of german, and a few greek tourists.
There was a family waiting in the next aisle to me,and they were all happy and smiling, apart from a young boy who was about 11/12 years old.
It seemed like this young man had the weight of the wolrd on his shoulders. I dont speak german, but I understand some, and with the tone his father was giving him, it was obviously something like, "Calm down, they will be here in a minute" or something like this.
Every time the doors opened, the little man would stop his pacing (genuine, furrow-in-the-floor pacing) and look expectantly at the arriving passengers. Then the look of disappointment would be overwhelming for him. Back to pacing.
Then obviously the family he had been waiting for arrived and he made a bee-line for a young girl of about 14/15 and hugged her. Oblivious to the smiles and hugs of the people going on around him. It seemed like he would never let her go. He continued to hug her and she hugged him with equal amounts of ferocity. They had their faces screwed up in releif of seeing each other.
Eventually the embrace ended and they held hands until forced to part by his aunt-type elder family member.
But I was just sitting there watching this scene with amazement. The girl could be his cousin, his sister, his anything, but girlfriend (it was a family thing for sure) I just thought that young man will go far in the future with any relationship, as he is not afraid to display affection. He had no concept of time or space around him, just the closeness and contact of the young girl.
I am a cynic, (should have been a newspaper man), but I had a lump in my throat and a tear in my eye when they left. It will stay with me some time. It is actually moving me now. Unrequited love ... you cant beat it.
i think now adays its hard to be young and be in love my wife left me after three months for a nouther man because the pressure of us being our age was to much its just almost nonexsistan now to see young people that will make it in there love maybee its the times but i feel its our view on the world that ruins us mostly. it seems that you are more likely to lust and be better off than you are to love at young ages.
"Young love is a flame; very pretty, often very hot and fierce, but still only light and flickering. The love of the older and disciplined heart is as coals, deep burning, unquenchable."
--Henry Ward Beecher (1813-1887), American clergyman
