Exactly, I made a deal with Ems father. He could be there and help support her, or he could stay away from us and I'd never ask a dime of him.
He chose the latter, which, to me, just proved that I was right in offering the deal.
By then I'd learned that he was the kind of person to say he would show up and then call a couple of months later with a lousy excuse.
She asked me about all of this when she was 9. I explained everything and told her the reasons that I did what I did. Joanne, she THANKED ME for loving her enough to do that. I still tear up thinking about it.
Yes, it's good when kids can have both, but it's much better to have one good parent and any lousy ones.

OMG! this englishman is driving me freaking bananas, love is not supposed to be a hard thing is it? is it supposed to be hard to come to terms and say exactly what we want and what we need? is it ALWAYS supposed to be in riddles, and when you ask a question expecting a straight out answer is it supposed to be answered with a prompt for you to answer? omg!!! he is getting harder and harder to understand, i don't recall love being so dissected!

Sweetie, it shouldn't be this hard. Tell him that you simply need a straight answer, that you're getting frustrated. If you can't be honest about this and how you feel, then maybe you should re-evaluate. JMO, hun.
