Ugh, the first few months I lived here and knew so very li'l of the language (and even that would get stuck in my throat when put on the spot), I could stretch food in the cupboard out for near eternity...just to avoid a trip to the market
where I just knew the language barrier would do me in. My favorite edible invention 
was pasta, any pasta, cooked and mixed with a can of creamed soup, any soup, and any other canned veggie still on the shelf. Scary thing is, I really like it.
