so I was thinking about this today, well realy for a while, people tend to have a dim view of the people in my profession. most ask when I am going to go to school and get a real job, as if we all do it only because we can do nothing else. so it prompted me to ask this thought provoking question. is you job one that you work at, dread every day, look forward to the end, and in general dislike, or is it the deam job? if not the dream job what is? what job would fufill you? btw mine is a truck driver.

The dream job is working at a car or motorcycle magazine. I like to write, something my current job affords me.

I wound up in something auto-related, and my expertise is counted on day-in and day-out. Not bad - a glorified gearhead.

It's not something I dread, but it has it's moments, stresses, etc., just like anything else. But when you like the subject matter, it all works out. I've been with the same outfit for 23 years this September.

Sometimes I dread my job and sometimes I like it. Some of the help who work in my dept either don't show up for work and then I have to work a double shift or else they just aren't doing their fair share of work when they are there which really makes me angry.I'm a big believer in teamwork and don't like it when someone slacks off on the job and other employees have to pick up the slack.

It's not my dream job but it's better then nothing.

By the way I have alot of respect for the job of the truck driver cause having a brother who's also a truck driver I've come to realize just how hard that job can be. My brother would no more then return home from a long trip take a shower and catch a few winks and have to go back on the road that very same day.

First, I have to say that you have my respect, slim1977. I have to drive a lot for my work, and I have seen some outrageously idiotic morons on the road, none of whom have ever been truckers. People who drive truck are some of the safest, most courteous drivers out there. Not to mention that they have demanding jobs AND they deliver all the goodies that we think we want right-here-right-now.

As for me, I absolutely adore my work. I teach English (and French, one semester) at two local community colleges. As far back as I can remember, I have dreamed of teaching at the college or university level. Granted, a full-time, tenure-track position would be even better, but I'll take this for now. I have worked long and hard to get here, and I am basically living my professional dream. If I am not teaching, I am not happy.

I love my job. Best one I've had not counting the 20 years in the Air Force. That was my best job on a totally separate level.
In the end, we spend ALOT OF TIME at our job. In the very least, we are, hopefully, making the money necessary to pay for our basic needs and to enjoy the time we are not working with out loved ones.
