Actually, on a philosophical note when I was about your age I thought I would never truly understand what fire is. I used to sit around campfires and stare into the coals talking with friends about the philosophical mysteries of the world.
However, after taking some courses in thermodynamics, electricity & magnetism, and chemistry I now know exactly what fire is. It's electromagnetic radiation of course, but more than that I even understand the chemistry of how things burn (or release energy) on a molecular level.
Now if I can just figure out how the individual atoms work I can apply for a Nobel Prize.
