Conrad73: And Governments encouraging the practice of lending money to those that could barely afford it.
Part of the Root of the present problem.
Then those Loans became Worthless securities.
Governments will look out for us----The Hell they will!

Never happened,and never will!
Let them keep their Greasy,Filthy Paws out of our Affairs as much as possible!

I guess it's all the problem of 'growth' - just as it is almost impossible to spend EXACTLY the same amount as you earn (you either spend slightly more or slightly less and you have things like 'accruels'...... you've used electricity and gas to heat your home and power your gadgets but not paid for them yet or 'prepayments' where you've paid in advance or in credit with your electricity/gas supplier.

A country is always either going through a period of growth or in recession. Recession is a 'bad' word. We all pay lip service to environmental issues, but we all seem to want growth. Growth = increased wealth and, generally speaking, more employment for all.

The word 'growth' to be is an evil word though in some ways - the economies of this planet cannot go on growing and growing forever and ever - it's a frenetic rush to oblivion..... but how can we have a reasonable standard of living for all and zero growth AND give people hope for the future?

We'd have to have some totalitarian world regime - akin to Communism... and we cannot accept that and also relish a life of freedom and choice and the abilty to impact on our own lives by working to acheive our own personal goals in life.

It's an almost impossible problem we all face as a species on this planet!

I do NOT want to go backwards and become a hunter/gatherer, although this would probably be the best solution for the planet.

Is there another way?

Will the next generation or the generation after that find 'the solution'?

Does it always have to end in a world war, so that those that survive from the rubble of destruction can start the whole process off all over again?

dunno confused conversing

phoenix: Sorry sommer but my money isn't the banks it's mine...But I know where you are comming from..lots of people borrowed money they didn't have..it wasn't that long ago that some brokers offered 125% morgages to first time buyers...and screwed them..

The big problem with your money in banks, is they take one euro/dollar/pound and are allowed to borrow 8 on the strength of it..

Icebank folded for that reason..in a nutshell when america sneezes the rest of the world catches a cold..I just hope it isn't a flu like rusty has...

I have a 125% mortgage on my hovel in the UK - but I've been able to take advantage of the situation (plus I 'bought' the property for 48% of its then market value so the 125% mortgage was only 60% of what it was really worth........ I hope you understand!)

I'd be a fool to pay off the mortgage at the moment, especially in the present climate, as I can make a lot more money on 'my' money than what I am paying in mortgage interest.......

confused grin

Not a world war, but more than likely extermination of the weakest, ...and I don't advocate that...

We have malaria and aids and famine and a new strain of bubonic plague bubbling away somewhere..........

nature always finds a balance as in a cute little computer prog. on 'foxes and rabbits' - too many foxes and the rabbits die out, then the foxes starve, then the rabbits start multiplying, then the foxes come back, then the rabbits start getting gobbled up.....etc, ad infinitum! thumbs up
