on stickers. Who ever got the stupid idea to label every apple with a sticker? It´s just a pain to remove and ads to the price of it.
I guess everything needs to be commercialized.

Ban apple stickers.

I think it would be ok to take the stickers off the apples but I like the stickers on the banannas because they are worth saving. :)

omg...........lol I just ate an apple to. It had a sticker on it. That is the bar code that the grocery store scans when they ring up the price.

do they have a four digit number?

if so...that's the plu code...so that the cashier can accurately charge you for them. of course...no clue what they do in your neck of the woods.

I've never bought an apple before. I got lucky enough to have access to an apple tree. I might have to find out if there is actually a reason for the sticker to go on my fun facts thread.

They sell them by loose weight here. No scanning or pushing numbers involved. If a cashier see an apple she knows it´s an apple. Why scan each and every apple when you can charge by the whole bag.

a PLU is not a barcode. You read her msg wrong. A PLU is usually a 4 digit number that you can punch into the register to get a price inquiry on the item. Not all cashiers remember the price of EVERYTHING especially in a supermarket where the prices of produce change as much as your underwear.

Those bar codes are mandated by the government. They are used to track the path of the apple through GPS. That's why it's best to
peel the label off in the store. Especially if you use a credit card or check to pay---- then the bar code can be matched directly to you. Therefore , always pay cash for fruit. Or barter.

What I like to do to throw them off is to place the sticker on a fire truck or police car , if it can be done discretely. That way , the satellite is tracking the fire truck , NOT the apple I bought.

Well that´s bad managment. We have 15 different kinds to. But they all have the same price. Speed thing up at the register and you can put different kinds in the same bag.
A penny here and there doesn´t matter to store owners here I guess.
Off course we have numbers and barcodes on other products but not produce.
We have selfmanagment to. You walk around with your own scanner and just dock it at the register. No one like to que, so it works great.
Doesn´t seem to be a big problem of shoplifting. At least not bigger then the salaries to emploies.

not when you consider perpetual inventory. everything that is sold at the register is automatically reordered through the POS system...therefore you have to know exactly which apple, and exactly how much.

stores here are too big for managers to do the ordering...gotta have the computers set up to take care of all that.
