I always thought that they wore robes to feel comfortable due to.. it not being able to properly fit in a nice undergarment....

Next time you watch a priest walking.. LISTEN VERY CLOSELY... and you will hear the sound of "SCAPING" on the grounds..... (could be the sash? NOT~!
