Chinagirl: I will check my notes again Emigre, it's a while since I read all that. But the 300 BC I was pretty sure was accurate from my memory. I do remember reading that in that 1,000 BC period, the Celts had invaded Rome on 2 occasions. But the native people in Germany took the opportunity to attack the Celts from behind on that occasion in 300BC and that's how they were eventually beaten.
there was definitely migration of celts around 300 bc but no-one is actually sure they came to ireland in any significant numbers at that time.
the ir are referenced in greek writing from the second millenium bc though so your king might have been called ir but he didn't originate the name.
apparently british celts are thought to have originated in the basque country which is also where the last neandertalls ended up...
Re the native German people - undoubtedly there are question marks over where and how all of Europe came to be populated. But it seems that the Celts were a warrior nomadic band of people, yet highly intelligent, skilled and had a language of their own. They invaded countries at will, took over large areas of land, settled their own people but they had huge armies who were constantly on the move.
Frieda Kahlo, because her paintings are awesome, Jane Goodall, because she had the patients to notice, Dave Mathews, because he's writes honest songs, Gandhi..Because he had the guts to be non violent...against violence. The Dali Lama...just because of his beautiful smile.

mcneillm: AFAIK Christ was actually proven to have been around
Actually no he was not proven to be “around” however there is enough evidence to suggest that it is possible that he existed but it can not be stated for certain
Isambard Kingdom Brunell for me. Built the Great Western Railway, Clifden Suspension Bridge, SS Great Britain (the worlds first metal ship and it's still afloat today) and of course The Great Eastern, a ship which was so big he had trouble launching it and it killed him in the end. These are only a few of his great achievements which sparked the industrial revolution around the world.
emigre: a chap called jesus hailing from nazarus did certainly stroll about palestine at the time in question but it was a very common name (still is in south america),
The name "Jesus" is an Anglicization of the Greek ??s??? (Iesous), itself a Hellenization of the Hebrew ????? (Yehoshua) or Hebrew-Aramaic ???? (Yeshua), meaning "YHWH rescues". "Christ" is a title derived from the Greek ???st?? (Christós), meaning the "Anointed One," which corresponds to the Hebrew-derived "Messiah".
Salvador Dali..love him too. Ceazar Chaves..no not the boxer. Did wonders for the migrant farm workers in america. Lesli Mormon Silko..for keeping the Native story telling alive...Daniel Day Lewis cuz I think he is the best actor ever....
