we have to get back to growing and producing our own food i do it, this is the only year from the last six that i have not kept a pig . i learnt how to cure bacon and hams make sausages and potted meat, salami to kill and dress fowl of all types to breed poultry and fatten them as well as bee keeping and growing fruit and veg. even if you only have window boxes you can still produce something worth while to eat, black bin bags are a great place to start, everything from spuds to tomatoes can be grown in them and then the surplus can be sold, frozen, bottled, pickled ..... the list is endless and you are only limited by your lack of immagination go on give it a go you just may get to like it or even better you may get bitten by the bug that could be called self sufficency.and if you need any advice give me a shout

bluestack: i have a small business up here, its hurting me at the minute,
iv not one phone call from the start of Jan, people are just not spending money, each morning listening to the news its all doom and gloom.
some say its greed, some blame banks, government etc... the price of OIL had a hand to it as well, when it went up and over the $100 a barrel

to be honest we are all to blame in some way,
last time i remember seeing long Q's at the dole office was way back in the late 80's its very depressing to see so many out of work now, so many under pressure to pay mortgages,i do feel for young families, trying to make ends meet.

UK not much better, the States are having a hard time too, so how knows what is ahead?

give us the low down on this small business.... unless you grow smoking then just make it up and mail me grin

I grow my own veg and herbs, have my own dairy from goats, eggs, fruit, own turf, honey and this year will plant a wood for my own fuel; its tought very difficult if you live on your own, but do able. Work full time, run my own company and am active in conservation.

Trade some goods for Pork and have venison and I fish sea, lake and river.

good on you i also have vennison rabbit hare and phesant along with grouse now and again, to produce you must conserve to allow a regular suppy i really meed to find somewhere with a couple of acres to move it up a notch or two but it will come i do miss white fish cod etc but more than make up for that with plenty of shell fish and fresh eels

I have a few acres, grin a wise investiment before property went through the roof, now just need to afford a roof. bought it deralict and been doing it up ever since. Just got a nice rayburn solid fuel, hotwater and central heating grin bathed in the river for 18 months when I first came and electricity is fascinating isnt it grin

You know the biggest disappointment is no hare or rabbit here, well some hare but not enough to be sustainable and once saw one rabbit, it was chasing my cat rolling on the floor laughing

Beekeeper mmmm. did you read an beachaire?

I get eels too and pike small ones are nice.
