As they start a new chapter in the history of the united states I find myself asking does it really matter that there is a new face in the oval office. Does it really effect the way my life is run. I admit that I've got caught up in the whole Obama retric and pomp and ceremony of it all.
But why should we be interested in what happens in the U.S.
I know I'll be up bright and early for work tomorrow morning the same as always.

Agree as to the hype, but unfortunately it does matter what happens in the US. They are the biggest superpower, the richest nation on earth, and unfortunately, very unfortunately do end up dictating policy throughout the world.
So, I guess, what happens in the Oval Office is important to us all, albeit in varying degrees of directness.
It matters a lot. It matters most if this guy can lift people's confidence and make them feel a little less negative about the future....that alone would be a huge benefit to the world.

Hi Cork Guy,
Gr8 question...........as regards our everyday life its not goin to change much if at all........I believe change....any change always takes time to filter down.......
I do think the US is very important to the World now and a lot of Governments and people will be watching with more than a passing interest...
If you take his story tonigh he is standing a couple of miles from a restaurant his father was turned away from 10 years ago.........yes I said 10 years ago and now here he is becoming President........If we think about that, it shows me that people can change for the better and is something to be celebrated....no one shd be judged by the color of their skin.... This will filter down to people in everyday life and hopefully it will help some people become more tolerant......
As regards his INbox...........I dont envy him, but I think anybody even you or I would hav done a better job than George W so that in itself is need for celebration.......he's gone
I am sorry for p[ostin a long reply but I applaud the US Electorate for showin the world that they can change for the better and racial intolerance is on the decline........

JMO
here here!!! his jobs for home not abroad cud affect us? i.e...intell and the likes...but at mo there heading to india and else where anyhow,so if u.s.a. gets online jobs wise ti filters straight to us 1st then elsewhere..imo
peace is a certainty with this guy... a talker not a fighter(his lawyer background)plus his varried family wont allow him to stray into war zones like bush was so eager to do....so good news all round i feel!!! imo...
well lets hope the us economy gets a boost so they can reinject the european banks after the subprime lending fiasco.
it seems to be that the republicans have always destroyed the us economy the democrats come in and clean up and hand it back to the republicans the next election
I think we have 2 look at it from a global perspective. and by doing this it will filter down .... ....Our lives are affected at the moment with Global change , and the war against terrorism ,etc , which obama pledges to be proactive on ..i also think because of his ancestry he will have an interest in human rights ie guantanamo bay.... George Bush has done untold damage to America and the World , and Obama carries a heafty burden He is on a pedastal at the moment and whether he can deliver or not remains 2 be seen , but i think he just might be the man for the job....... :dunno

Totally agree. Think the global policy side of things is so true. The world is getting smaller, everything that happens in each nation - irrespective of size - has a knock on effect on the rest of us in some respect. Consequentloy, given the size, and power over policy, that the US has, it is more important than ever to look at what is happening over there.
God knows if Obama will deliver, but the feelgood factor he has already projected is much needed, and a positive outlook on anything usually makes the desired objective that much more achievable.
I think it does matter,,for us as human beings,,and as a country, and our ecomony,in the ong run.I think it a great sign of things to come,,even for the fact he was elected,,and whether he is up for the job, only time will tell,,but at least he will have tried,,and being honest,,he has his work cut out for him,,after bush,,,so my prayers are with him,he has,nt an easy task ahead of him,in many ways,,but i do,, believing in his back round, and values in life,,with experiencing that back round,,he just mite make a difference in a big way.
