The Famine in Ireland was caused by two things.....
1. The potota crop failed between 1845 & 1849 by a blight (fungus) which was inadvertenly brought in from North America.....
2. Britains Landlords and Government. Potatoes were the staple diet of the Irish people at that time. All other crops were exported to Mainland Britain for consumption as were Cattle, Pork and Mutton. During the Famine the British knew they could save a lot of lives but they continually insisted that the food for export was still exported. They did this with the help of their army. The population of Ireland at the time was 6.5 million. After the Famine the population was 4 Million. It is estimated half of the people emigrated and the other half died of starvation and other related illness's.
I am so sorry to people to post this here but I found above comment extremely insulting, and insensitive to the actual situation that happened.
I understand people become irate when in an argument but throwing ill founded comments about in this way just shows that people argue with their hearts and not their heads...

Canada is now a nation made up of many races and cultures who seem to live happily alongside each other.
It was made up mainly in the beginning by the native Indians, Scottish, French, Irish, English immigrants.
You only have to look at the place names and populations surnames to have this proved.
When I was at school a teacher taught me RTQ2....
Read the question twice and the same with the answer....
The Irish Potato Famine occurred because of English Land lords.
The Scots have never over taken anyone....as the Irish and Scots were included in what was then the Empire of Great Britain.... any one from either of these nations who joined the army took the king or queen's shilling and was a member of their army....
Most Canadian seems to be proud to have heritage from one of these four countries...
